Ibis Hamburg St. Pauli Messe

I was tempted to give this hotel a bad review due to it being such a 'cheap and cheerful’ type of place but to be fair it exceeds the standards I would expect for a hotel of its class.
It’s a basic hotel in as much as the amenities are basic but the service you receive when staying there is really efficient. The staff are friendly and helpful and remember your name on sight (better than the Ritz?), the hotel is spotlessly clean and the beds comfortable. (Im not sure about the plastic curtains though!)
So, if you are lookng for somewhere cheap and cheerful whilst visiting Hamburg look no further!

The Ibis in St. Pauli, Hamburg is a simple and cheap hotel that gets the basics right. Rooms are a decent size, the bed and pillows are comfortable and the hotel is kept very clean. The front desk staff were particularly friendly this morning and seemed quite amazed when i turned down the complimentary breakfast! “But sir, it is free…..”

This is my home for next couple if days, so i will update this review if my opinion changes. While the Ibis is a far cry from the Ritz, they do the simple things well and so far so good!

The idea of major hotel chains, is that you find almost the same thing at the four corners of the planet: same host, same room, same breakfast ... with the same qualities and same defects ... but the good thing is that, as this was the first time I stayed in a hotel of this brand .. I was not blasé .. The basic single room ranges from € 69 to € 99 , the bathrooms are clean and functional. The breakfast is generous. Be careful, the whole hotel is non smoking, including bedrooms. and second bad point, the premiere TV channel is not showing ... so gentlemen, no football games after a hard day's work ...
