I’m glad to see far more positive comments like these coming through now. I couldn’t have been the only one happy with Joseph. I never believed in the integrity of some of the nastier negative commentators on here. I am truly fussy. Unlike some of the more recent positive reviewers who tend to assume Grouponees get bad treatment, not regulars, I was truly a Groupon voucher user when I visited Joseph too. I did not expect top flight treatment, with all the frills and extras and pampering, but what I did get far exceeded my expectations for the price I paid overall and I got a fabulous haircut and a great colour match for my skin tone too. And I was offered a great cup of coffee. Far better than I’ve had elsewhere. If I could afford to go back at regular prices, I would.

I hope you are all listening. I have just seen some of the negative reviews on this site about Joseph and his staff. I can only assume they are written by boring people who have absolutely nothing to do but to sit in front of their computers all day writing bad stuff about people. I have had my hair cut by Joseph, Sarah and Stefania. They are amazing hairdressers. There is also very talented young man name Seb who has business by the name of Seb in the City . I have seen him do amazing hair extensions on the girl who was sitting next to me having hair extensions. Stupid voucher people if you pay peanuts then you will get monkeys. Do not run down a senior hairdresser like Joseph who has spent his entire life dedicated to hairdressing. Pay full price then you can expect royalty treatment. Otherwise dont complain!. I have been customer of this salon for years and i dont usually write reviews as i dont have time to do run down peoples businesses but after hearing some voucher people have written nasty stuff i felt I had to.

Oh really!! ripped off what mate? how much pay? Dont buy groupon then.
I can only speak from my own personal experience but I found the visit very pleasant and thankfully I loved my new hair style!
I am a pretty fussy person when it comes to my hair as I have very thick hair which is hard to manage. My hair was cut and coloured by Joseph and I was extrememly happy with the outcome. The salon looked great, was buzzing with clients, I was seen straight away and was offered a hot or cold beverage.
I'm not sure why some of you had such bad experiences but I can honestly say I was extremely happy with the service I received and will definitely be going back again.

I can assure you that I am a client of Joseph and have never given reviews before but it has upset me so much that these Groupon clients have been so rude about a salon where the staff are so hardworking and professional. I can only say if you havent been you should not even bother writing anything and they probably wouldnt want you to go to the salon as you have such a negative and unpleasant attitude. I say Joseph and his team are the best hairdressing salon I have ever been to and I am certainly not the easiest client as previous salon owners would tell you.

Hmmm i had one message stating you were the owner and then this one. I let others decide who they think you are. As the owner of a business you should be well aware negative comments come with the territory, and you should be able to take these few comments with a pinch of salt. If you feel that it is only since using Groupon that you have had these comments, then the resolution is simple. People have an opinion, and most of the time, in life, they will not be the same as yours or other people’s. It is a shame that an owner of a business feels the need to retaliate. Stating that a salon wouldn’t wanted potential customers is appalling, and with that negative and unpleasant attitude, I am whole heartedly surprised you have not received more negative comments. You are not a niche company, there are plenty of other places to go.

I resent that. I am not one of the salon owners, I was a genuine Groupon customer and knew none of the staff or the owner either, and Joseph cut and coloured my hair superbly. Unlike today when I had a very disappointing hairdressing experience from Cianna (in Croydon) and returned to this site to see if more Joseph reviews had been put up since I visited before. After today’s experience I would much rather had gone to Joseph.

zambyzamby, 5 September 2012:
Joseph is the best stylist I have ever been to. I always come out of his salon feeling truly special
Two weeks before my hair appointment, I called and made an appointment. I was told by the receptionist that Joseph (the owner) would be cutting my hair. I feel it is important to bring this up, as in an attempt to rectify the problem haircut, I was outright lied to by Joseph himself.
Being a very placid, passive and easy going person, I walked into the salon for my appointment with Joseph, having decided on going much shorter than the length my hair had grown to, within a limit. When Joseph first saw me, he told me he wanted to cut it short - up to my jawline. I wasn't prepared to go that short, and politely said I was only going to go just above my shoulders. I was looking for a longer bob cut that stayed to my length specifications and asked for layers and thinning out as I have very thick hair.
I had my hair washed by a kind apprentice who was lovely, but I could sense some hesitation from her. I put it down to her only being there for 2 weeks but later discovered she was treated with utter disrespect, a third-rate citizen who was expected to learn how to make appointments by herself, WHILST she was on the phone with a potential client. But because this client was another voucher holder, no care was awarded to her.
My hair was cut without sectioning, and no real method that I have ALWAYS experienced in the past (as I said earlier, I have a lot of hair and it takes time!). I ended up with what looks like someone slipped and cut an arrow out the middle of the back of my head! I asked 3 times to have the short length at the back extended to my shoulders, and then let the hair fall longer as it came forward from the shoulders. But was refused each time I looked in the mirror, and told that "this was the style"!!! Trying to remain positive and pleasant, I accepted that Joseph wasn't going to do anything about it as he just sat there and watched as I brushed all the hair he had cut out of my face and my neck and shoulders. I was made to feel I was wasting his time and he had better things to do.
I left, without the great feeling we should have after getting our hair done. I met a few friends who politely told me it was different and it looked nice, but understood it wasn't what I had asked for - because of the weird cut at the back.
I decided to come home, wash it and see how it was. There is no better word to describe it than upsetting and absolutely horrendous! I called back for a redo and was scheduled for an appointment in 2 weeks time as they were very difficult in giving me a reasonable timed appointment. I was ready to go back to get what I actually wanted, a longer bob, but was called back the next day by Sarah (who is the lady who "normally does the voucher cuts") and was told that there was a problem and I needed to explain what exactly I wasn't happy with! Really disheartening as I believe that when you do a job, you should do it well and take pride in what you do. If there is something wrong, you should be the first to accept responsibility and rectify the problem.
Sarah told me she couldn't fix the problem as she wasn't there when I came in for my poor excuse for a haircut. She asked me to call back again, to which I wasn't very impressed with but agreed. I called again at the specified time and waited 5 minutes for Joseph to actually come to the phone - when he had determined the time for me to call back! He was rude on the phone and lay the blame solely on me. He asked me "why would I want to come back to him to get a recut if I wasn't happy with him?" and that "it is degrading to cut hair for £20". He then went on to say that he normally did not do cuts for those with voucher deals, to which I responded that at the time of booking my appointment, I was told Joseph would be cutting my hair. I specifically remember this because I thought I was lucky (ironic, isn't it?!) that the owner would be cutting my hair and it would turn out better than I was expecting it to.
He barely let me have a word and as I really dislike confrontation, I allowed him to. I did manage to tell him that I would take this matter further, and I will be seeking reimbursement from KGB Deals and the hairdresser I am going to have to make a new appointment with to fix my hair!
More than anything, I feel really upset and disappointed that someone of his "stature" (cutting hair for 30 years), in an upmarket area like South Kensington is getting away with mistreating clients and staff!
In my opinion, the salon's low opinion of voucher deals and the clients who buy them shouldn't go on any longer. If they are so unimpressed by clients with deals, they shouldn't bother advertising - as many of you have previously said yourselves. Horrible horrible experience has left me with the worst feelings toward some of their staff.

I think you need to write a book or do something more constructive in your life then just write reviews and run people down who work hard. i had amazing cut at this place. Disagree with everything you are saying.
I think the “people” who wrote these reviews are disgusting and deluded. I have been a client of Joseph’s for more than 10 years and have ALWAYS found him and his staff to be extremely professional and courteous. My hair is very difficult and Joseph always me look and feel like a million dollars. He is the very best and I have been to loads of different salons.
Dont listen to these reviews, I would very very highly recommend Joseph and his staff.

Always read reviews and then make up your mind there is no point taking the risk especially with hair or skin. The interior does not look very stylish and the whole experience was the worst ever hair cut.

Absolutely awful – avoid at all cost!
Like a lot of reviews here I had a Groupon offer for a cut and colour and I expected a professional salon along the lines of Toni & Guy. Imagine my surprise when I walked into a tiny little salon with a woman glaring at me and treating me like something scraped off the bottom off her shoe because I was a Groupon client!
I really should have followed my instincts and just walked out but I persevered because I paid and needed my hair cut. The stylist then proceeded to tell me I didn’t need to colour or highlight my hair, despite me paying for it! They washed my hair very briskly, no conditioner or anything like that…which I found quite shocking! He then went on to cut my hair in probably the worst haircut I’ve ever had, all the while looking like he was doing me a massive favour and shouting at his assistant. I ended up with a truly bad haircut which hasn’t happened anywhere else before and the sad thing is that I can’t even have it fixed as I have short hair and my hair needs to grow first before I can do anything about it.
Reading the reviews on here I am now very glad I didn’t have my hair coloured by them as it would have been a disaster!
I am only moved to write a reivew as I saw Joseph on Groupon again this week and I would strongly advise people to NOT go there, it is a terrible salon.

absolutely rubbish, this person must be a total idiot, I have been a client of Joseph for over 5 years and find the whole team to be extremely professional and very very knowledgeable about every type of hair. The junior gives the best head massage and the coffee is even delicious. Joseph is the best hairdressing salon in London if not England.

Well, I can’t understand this at all. I took advantage of another Groupon deal today for Karda hair in South Ken. where I have slated them for trying to charge extra for invented ‘too thick’ hair and I walked out without completing the treatment. But my experiences of using this salon last year – again under Groupon deal – was very positive indeed. You can see that from my review below. I guess I was fortunate and it probably helped having Joseph doing my hair. I must admit that this salon was a bit shabby looking, but I had first class attention and very pleasing service and a great cut and colour. Better than I have had anywhere else.

mammamia111, 30 November 2012:
Agree with zambyzamby. The voucher people are the worst . Always complaining. Why dont people just get a life
I am shocked and astonished by all of these bad reviews. When I rang to book my appointment I told them that I was a Groupon visitor. The receptionist gave me a choice of bookings and was pleasant on the phone. I was nearly late when I arrived and no one moaned – in fact we had a laugh about me being on time (the receptionist showing me the clock at 1 minute before my appointment). I had a folding bike with me and they looked after it.
I was given very good, professional service all round. The salon assistant was pleasant and friendly and offered my coffee, which was probably the best I’ve ever had at any salon (usually it’s instant coffee). When I asked for a second cup they didn’t bat an eyelid (I thought 1 cup might be the maximum I could have for the Groupon pre-paid voucher).
Joseph did my hair – not his usual hairdresser doing the Groupon cuts and colours (or so he said) – and he advised me that full hair colour was better for me that half a head of highlights, which is what I nearly chose – having had highlights before. True he didn’t give me a colour chart, but I didn’t ask for one either when I’d specified that I wanted something similar to my usual colour. His cut was professional, thoughful and efficient and I looked great when it was all finished – although probably no better than I’d get from any good hairdresser I go to – but that was probably due to the kind of curly wild hair I have, nothing to do with his cutting prowess. My colour was very nice too and he did not seem inconsiderate to me or annoyed when I mentioned the colour was irritating my scalp (I’ve never had permanent colour before, only highliights, therefore this is probably typical of dyes when they are massaged into the roots). He asked me if the irritation had gone and it was before long. The finish was a bit hurried and my hair wasn’t dried off completely nor other finishes or sprays applied – but I was on a bike and on a windy day that would have been wasted on me anyway. I didn’t mind that at all.
For the Groupon voucher price, which is considerably less than I’d pay at my usual local hairdresser (2/3 less, I might add), I got a very professional service indeed and I certainly wasn’t made to feel a nuisance or some sort of unwelcome second class citizen for being a cut price Groupon visitor. The salon assistant and Joseph were very talkative and friendly during my stay and answered my chit chat and I was keen to leave a tip at the end, which I felt was more than deserved.
I didn’t expect 1st class full price Knightsbridge clientelle service, to be honest – and nor should you – provided there is one. The price is usually well in excess of £200 per cut and colour. You should expect a competent service – a nice cut and colour – but don’t expect to get the ‘royal treatment’ – with finishes, head massage and all the usual extras you get with a hairdressing ‘experience’ rather than a straightforward cut and colour’ particularly when their regular clients come in and their time is divided.

actually if you look on your voucher it says complimentary drink or glass of bubbly and being in south ken i would think you would expect a better service ACTUALLY! ER WHERE ARE YOU GOING TO GET HIGHLIGHTS £200 !!! I live in the centre of chelsea and its £160 max but seen as the colour irritated your head, you werent finished well in your own words sounds like ur just another sucker mate….i dont put up with shabbyness. you might like that kinda thing but if you read ur own review you say its good then point out the bad points. not very convincing tbh

“I didn’t expect 1st class full price Knightsbridge clientelle service, to be honest – and nor should you – provided there is one.”
Lemmonny, you are putting 2 + 2 together and making 5. That is not what I am saying at all; nor was it implied. What I am saying is that my expectations of visiting a high class salon in Knightsbridge was realistic and I did not expect any frills or endless attention to me, whilst regulars paying hudreds of pounds came in to be served. I expected to be fitted around the regulars, not given priority. Otherwise, how would you feel if you were seated right next to someone, having forked out £250 for a cut and colour and overhear a conversation next to you where you learned that someone else had the same attention to detail and frills and paid only £40. Pretty pissed off, I would assume.
In fact, me expectations were surpassed. I got excellent service and a cut and colour from Joseph himself, whichmay or may not have been the same as it was for the regulars and it far exceeded my expectations. I gave them a fiver tip too. But, I must admit, I do seem to be in minority. But I wonder just how well others managed their expectations too!
Josephs Salon doesn’t even deserve one star. In-fact to correctly rate the service I had there, this rating system should go into the negatives.
After reading some of the tragic experiences of the other poor girls here, I feel like so many more women walked out as stressed out and angry as us. I know the incredibly rude man your taking about, as he dyed and cut my hair as well. I made my appointment with a woman stylist. When I walked in she was already working on two other ladies at the same time and told me that Joseph would service me instead. Apparently they are as bad at booking appointments as they are at cutting hair.
I should have left at this point but I figured that the man owned the salon so he couldn’t be that bad. I have long hair that I love, it was a massive mistake to trust him with it. He put the dye in my hair then proceeded to hold it tightly in a pony tail as he combed my wet hair aggressively. I could hear hair strands breaking as he attacked it with the comb. When I left the incredibly uncomfortable chair, I looked back and saw the sink covered in pieces of my hair. By the way, I also got no towel under my neck at the sink or scalp massage, apparently Groupon buyers don’t deserve standard treatments.
When he asked how I wanted it cut, I told him that I wish to grow my hair longer and just want a trim. To which he replied “thats not going to happen” as he looked at the horrible damage done to the ends of my hair. I warned him again that I want just a trim…and then he spent a total of just 5 minutes cutting my hair. I asked him for more layers and he picked up just a few strands here and there and snipped them. He wasn’t paying attention to anything I was saying and was rudely trying to get me out the door, and I was nice too! I wish I yelled at him and demanded my money back! My hair looks like I stuck it in a blender. The ends are more damaged then before I went in and I have a massive chunk of bangs i didn’t want….it literally looks like I made one massive snip to make them (and I have long very curly hair so it looks even more ridiculous). I tried to clearly communicate how I like it cut (thinly cut bangs and lots of layers) and he ignored me, cut it the wrong way and kicked me out.
The worst part is I called back to complain, after I got sick of trying to hide the horrible looking bangs with every hair style, and he refused to fix it! He asked if I used Groupon and once I said yet got incredibly rude, told me it was too late and hung up.
So there you go ladies and gents…this salon is incredibly overpriced and has untalented and rude service. Never-ever would I dream of treating clients or their hair like this, and if your a Groupon person…goodspeed because you will be treated like the poo on their shoe. My suggestion is to call Groupon and ask for your money back, I complained to Groupon as well… and you have every right to be scared.

I don’t believe a word you say. I was a groupon visitor yesterday and Joseph, who cut my hair, couldn’t have been more pleasant and attentive. So was his young assistant. I thought the service was excellent. If you had a bad experience then I expect you were partly to blame.

Bel0612, 28 July 2012:
Don’t worry, I’m starting to think that I was lucky. Or perhaps they saw me as a potential regular and did not see many other vouchers users as being anything more than one-off bargain hunters.
As it is, I’ve started a personal blog and given some advice on using these coupon schemes, amongst other features: www.dennyspenny.com. I’ve made specific mention of hairdressers under the scheme.

I do not agree with you, Bel0612. I had an almost identical experience to bee6095 and many other reviewers previously. It’s easy to lay blame with the consumer for having done something wrong but it’s difficult not to see a repeating pattern…!
I too bought a Groupon deal but thankfully didn’t make an appointment with them as the receptionist was astonishingly rude when I tried to book. Joseph should not have agreed to groupon if they can’t carry out the deal! The other reviews make me so glad I dropped the phone on that horrible toad at reception who referred to me as one of ‘these groupon people’. Ugh.

gw0612, 28 July 2012:
Not to be confused for making excuses for rude manners, but having had an awful experience at this salon, and Joseph the one who cut my hair as well, I witnessed first hand the laziness and reluctance to help a lovely girl doing an apprenticeship at the salon.
She was treated so poorly! She was trying to take the initiative to clean up around Joseph as he proceeded to ruin my hair and maybe even “learn” something by shadowing him. But he spoke to her so rudely and was very condescending.
Horrendous experience at this salon. STAY AWAY!
Firstly I’d like to start by saying I never write reviews.
I felt I had to after my experience at Joseph yesterday. I booked a Groupon and stupidly didn’t look at reviews as I’ve previously been to a great salon through Groupon.
I was booked in the with the owner so I thought it would be a great professional cut and colour. However as he sat me down he started moaning about people with Groupons, how they are tight and not willing to pay extra when they come in (that’s because they already paid!) He told me a story of how one woman refused to pay an extra £20 for more than one colour in her highlights, surely this should be included in ‘half a head of highlights’. Dismissing the money saying ’it’s only £20, how stupid is that?’ But the fact is she’d already paid for the service so why should she pay more.
Once again I didn’t get shown a colour chart, he just decided what colours I should have without discussing it. As I was having the highlights done another woman was booked in (he’d only allowed a half hour appointment for a full head of highlights!) He ended up getting to her 45 minutes late, blaming my hair for being too thick, and was really rude to her (she also had a Groupon) wouldn’t tell her what time she might be finished so she could let work know. They had a blazing row and she said she’d get a refund. He wouldn’t even apologise for wasting her time.
Anyway the colour came out yellow (it was previously brown with natural highlights), he cut my hair into a mushroom, (it is very think and needs lots of thinning). He had other customers waiting and was obviously rushing to finish my hair.
I had asked on the phone to book in for a full head and pay the extra £30 on top of the groupon. When I went to pay they tried to charge me £74. When I asked him to explain why he was saying I should pay for a half head which is £110 and he was doing it cheaper out of the goodness of his heart!!
This is the owner of the salon, does he not care about his reputation at all??? I will have to go somewhere else to get it fixed, it was the worst hairdressing experience of my life.
DO NOT GO TO THIS SALON!

I feel horrible for you, but to offer you a possible solution. If it’s not too late, I’ve done some research online and have found that if a hairdresser refuses to ammend any mistakesor to offer any other solution, if you need to get it redone (cut/colour or both), you need to get the hairdresser you went to to fix the problem, and get them to write down how they fixed it and what state your hair was in prior to them fixing it for you. You should be able to then get reimbursed for having to go elsewhere to fix the problem.
This is what I plan to do as I am so disappointed by how I was treated at Joseph’s, even moreso than the horrible excuse for a haircut I received there.

AVOID!!!!!
HORROR PLACE- NOT A HAIRDRESSER!!!!
First rewiev is so true, no matter if you buying voucher form Groupon, or just looking for hairdresser, do not go there or book app.
I went there yesterday, and got shocked to the core. I’m so upset I haven’t check any rewievs before I went there!!!.
I asked for some highlights, and as person above, wasn’t shown colour chart!!, colour(cheep bleach) was mixed downstairs, the guy came back with some from downstairs, and added some old mixed one, left on the side!!!!.
I don’t know the name of person who was dealing with my hair, but this guy around 50years old, was extremly rude, everytime I want to say what I think, he shut me down, by saying he “knows what he is doing”. My neck almost crack, as he was pulling my head down, to make sure it will more comfortable for him to put BLEACH on my hair. Once I went throught this, I was waiting for bleach to “kick off” and left on the side for 20m. In this time I have good look around and realise how dirty this place is, some old hair on the chairs, dusted and filthy floors and corners, absolutely nightmare!!! BTW I wasn’t asked if I wanted any drink at all!!
When time comes I had my hair washed, and was shocked even more. I end up with horrible colour as person in review above (foxy orange, sort of blondish) I don’t know but I went trought terrible experience!!!
AVOID IF YOU LOVE YOUR HAIR, DO NOT GO THERE DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY, AND SAVE YOURSELF DISSAPOITEMENT.
I should go to work after but needed to call sick as I was to embarased to go to work and let anybody see me like this.
Thanks I booked app. in another hairdresser and will have my hair “redone” 2mrw by proffesional hairdreesser in clean salon and stress free.
Hope this review will help you to make up your mind.

JOSEPH IS THE WORST EXCUSE FOR A HAIR SALON I HAVE EVER HAD THE MISFORTUNE OF WASTING BOTH MY TIME AND MONEY IN. Initally they began by ‘slagging off’ my hair, what a welcome to a supposedy luxurious top salon… Not only did they butcher an unreasonable quantity of my hair WITHOUT CONSENT but they also drastically failed to dye my hair the correct colour (not even showing me a colour chart!!). I also found them extremely rude and unprofessional. I was left dehydrated, when they asked if I would like a drink, they spent two hours searching for a tap and a scabby glass, personally after waiting that long I had expected them to bring me water from the peak of mount everest in a freshly sculpted diamond glass especially when I had paid £240 to have my hair destroyed by an incompitent, rude, chav-like sorry excuse for a hairdresser, who found it amusing that she had cut her own finger 3 times in one session and still decided to come back the next day and rub her neusiating, horendous, haemoraging flesh across my scalp and face. She also joked in a shocked manor about having several complaints that morning, I found the fact she was shocked was more of a joke. On top of this, having my hair washed felt like my head was being put through a food prosessor and the sight of her finger only added to the ambiance. Eventually after four hours of expensive torture (torture that is only fit for LEDC prisons) I left the salon looking like a bereved fox which had just been dragged out of a scrap heap washing machine after several years. After a few steps I could no longer handle the events the had unrolled upon my head and turned crying to my friend (who I’m surprised that she stayed by my side under the physically shocking circumstances). In short, don’t even consider going to this house of horrors unless it is to hurl abuse or have them arrested and the hell cave shut down. PS anyone who believes that they havve had a nice hair cut (etc) from here is SERIOUSLY delusional and have been brain washed by these money sucking vampires and will be better off spending thieir cash at a councillor or rehab and definately a different hairdresser.
