The Vestry

What a disjointed experience. When you arrive, you're greeted by a noisy late night meat-market Yates-style pub. But when you get to your room it's like you're at a different venue. The rooms are lovely, big with a giant bath and four poster bed. But when you go down to breakfast, it's cheap hotel mode again. All in all, it's fine as a base but not one to send the parents too perhaps.

More a pub than hotel but no worse for that. We paid £75 for a double room which was named after a bishop (Ralph de Luffa or room 6). This room was pretty large with a dressing table, iron, tea making stuff, complimentary biscuits electric heater that worked, Freeview box & a rather small & old TV. The en-suite bathroom was modern with a heated rail that kept it warm. The shower over the bath worked well.
There was a band playing below in the bar area by the sound of it around 10pm so we both went elsewhere for a drink. We returned by an entrance for guests about 11:40. The band had stopped playing, we encountered no disturbance & was able to get to sleep in the not too soft double bed.
Breakfast was served between 7:30 & 10:00am. Cereal & fruit juice was available. Good menu choice - I had the full English & Leilah went for Salmon & cream cheese on toasted muffins. I chose poached eggs with rather solid yokes served on less than warm plates - breakfast was unusually busy this particular Friday morning so gave the very pleasant staff the benefit of a little doubt. They allowed us to leave 3 carrier bags for the day. Decent hand-pumped beer in the bar, clean carpets - a great stay & would return! You are expected to vacate the rooms by 11am
