The armoury alone is worth the entrance price. Come prepared to spend the whole day and you won’t get bored. If you are coming with children, then bring them snacks so they can last. It’s especially good value if you are a Tower Hamlets resident as there is usually a massive discount available if you bring your library card.

In my opinion, the Tower of London is the absolute “must not miss” destination for any visitor to London. The Tower has it all: history, entertainment, and the Crown Jewels! The tours by the Yeoman Warders (Beefeaters) are always entertaining but also informative. The Tower is absolutely worth your time and money.

It costs about 8 quid to get in (last time I went, admittedly a few years ago), and with so many great free attractions in London, it may seem like a good idea to miss the Tower. Don’t! It’s well worth the entrance fee, and one of the few places I always recommend to visitors. Just make sure you go on a dry day, because they tend to cancel the beefeater tours when it’s raining (guess the rain must play havoc with those jackets). The tours are really good and make the trip for me. Even though I’ve been twice (due to friends visiting), the 2nd tour was just as enjoyable as the first. You learn loads more and see things you probably would’ve missed otherwise (check out the amazing graffiti in some of the cells, incredible carvings done with just an odd bit of stone). Also, the beefeaters tend to be pretty funny.

One of London’s most famous landmarks, the historic Tower houses the Crown Jewels, the prison cell of Sir Walter Raleigh, known as the Bloody Tower, and the Chapel of St. John and the Royal Armories

One of London’s most interesting places to visit. Historically a hair-raising visit will make your day. Considering the deadly deeds that happened throughout the ages it is not eerie. It is haunted of course but the ghosts are friendly.

The tower of London is a large palace that had been a fortress, a royal palace, a prison and also an execution sit for traitors of the state. This is one of the best attractions of London, you should not miss it. The highlight of the visit would be the Crown Jewels anytime amongst other attration like the swords and cannons.

Wonderful place to discover the history of this country! Although, of course, the countless prisoners held in the Tower that never saw the light of the day again, will have a very different view on this place. And there really were many of them. Political prisoners, prisoners of war, traitors: anyone who messed with (or was thought to mess with) the English monarchy was sent here and often enough died a dreadful death. Only the most important prisoners, however, were beheaded in the Tower itself - that included Lady Jane Grey, uncrowned Queen of nine days and victim of a political plot who was executed at only 16 years of age. Less prestigious and important prisoners were beheaded on Tower Hill, in front of a cheering crowd. May the all rest in peace.
It is often forgotten that the Tower was not just a prison, it was indeed the Royal Residence from the times of William the Conqueror on, who built the White Tower - the square building at the heart of the Tower of London - in order to impress the population of London (who certainly didn’t want a Norman king as their monarch!). In times of trouble, the wooden stairs leading up to the entrance of the White Tower could be taken down, and its population would be safe inside. Just how they would get out again, isn’t quite clear.
The Tower is a fascinating place bursting with English and British history, and there is something for all ages. The “Prisoners of the Tower” audio tour has to be paid for on top of entrance fees (it’s £3.50 I think), but it is very good indeed and helps get a taste for this old place full of (mostly sad) stories. I didn’t go on a guided tour but they looked entertaining and well-presented.
Oh and the Crown Jewels are very pretty indeed.
I’d go again anytime soon!

The Tower of London is a great English land mark. I enjoyed it, learning about the history of the place is great and there is also the Queens jewels. You can have a pack lunch on the green with the ravens running around. The Tower can be a little dull for younger children but as an adult I find it really enjoyable.

i love this place and never get bored of visiting it - the jewels are so beautiful and are awe inspiring. we love the beefeaters and the history that just oozes out of it from every brick. We take the river boat from Charing Cross riverside and enjoy the River Thames and all it holds before we alight at the Tower and step through time.

The Tower of London is one of the world’s most famous palaces. It is often identified with the White Tower, the original stark square fortress built by William the Conqueror in 1078. It has everything for a fantastic day out for the whole family. Amazing and spectaculat both throughout the day or it’s magnificent presence in the evening.

THE TOWER OF LONDON WAS NO1 SYMBOL OF LONDON TILL THE LONDON EYE WAS BUILT.
I THINK IT’S TIME FOR THE TOWER OF LONDON TO BOUNCE BACK FROM MODERN SYMBOLISM.
THE TOWER OF LONDON IS A HISTORIC PLACE AND WE ALL HAVE TO RESPECT THE HISTORIC PLACES
FOR ME IT’S STILL NO1 PLACE TO GO.

The Tower of London is without doubt my number 1 attraction in London. I have been a few times and on every occassion it has not failed to impress me. You do not need to be a history veteran to enjoy this attraction, its for everyone. Once you have paid to enter - £16.50 for adults, about £14 students and OAPS and a family ticket for about £45-47 - you await in a group for your tour guide. You do not have to wait, you can go off on your own. But i HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU WAIT. Your guide will be one of the highly knowledgeable ’’Beefeaters’’ and they will be able to tell you every story about famous prisoners, who lost their head - where, and why the black birds are always there. The Beefeaters live in the facility and they have been there for a very long time. Inside the gate you can see the pot where private executions took place, the church where some famous people are buried, the village where they live, the CROWN jewels (its like a fortress of security) and most ecitingly - where the prisoners were kept. I do not mean this morbidly - what is exciting is that whilst there (some prisoners were there for decades) they carved their names or crests into the stone walls - and you will see some very famous names. It gives me shivers when i think back to seeing the carvings.
So - my advice:
Book tickets online
Bring a bottle of water as there is alot of walking
and most importantly: wait for the guide!

No tourist should venture into London without visiting the Tower of London. This is a very popular place to visit and like al things in London, very expensive in ticket and tourist tat prices but it gives you an idea of the history and times of King Henry and how they lived. The Beadles’ uniforms make colourful pictures.

I would suggest going to County Hall which is across the river, beside the Tower of London, then you will get a fantastic view of the actual Tower of London, the dungeons and other parts you dont see when you are walking around the grounds and castle ramparts.

To do this you should walk across Tower bridge and into the gardens of County Hall then slowly work your wal along the riverside looking at the shops, the marvellous views of all the tiny old Christopher Wren churches nestled among the skyscrapers and see the London you wouldnt normally see.

One of the most amazing places I have been in the world and well deserving of its world heritage status.
Definitely wait at the gate for one of the Yeomen Warders (beefeaters) as they add so much to the experience. Their stories are funny, but sometimes a bit horrific when they relive the past. Just be prepared for the word "beheading" to be used alot!
The white tower sits in the middle and houses some treasures like Henry VIII's amour (he was big!) It also has weapons of old. The crown jewels are there of course, with the guards marching outside. I thought there would be more jewels and crowns, but they are very beautiful!
There is a guards museum which is worth a look and a souvenir shop which is quite pricey.
At £18, it well worth it for a day trip, a must do for every Londoner and tourist.

The Tower of London.
What can I say to convince you that this is one of the places you really need to see, feel, experience?
I have visited The Tower of London a few times, and I find it ever interesting, ever fascinating and ever enchanting.
Books have been written, movies have been made about this place, and why? - I will tell you why! Not many places will you encounter such horror and such beauty as what you will experience when visiting The Tower of London, seeped as it is i gory history.
At The Tower of London they have the most amazing tour guides, the beefeaters, who will show you around on the location and share its intimidating (and very, very fascinating) history with you.
In this place you will come to feel that history is brought to life, that the events of past centuries are almost within reach. Almost.

If there is only one place you plan to visit in London, it should be Tower of London. It is not only wonderful in itself and it's history, it is also very well maintained, has very interesting displays, and best of all, the Beefeaters are the best tour guides in the world. When you visit, you should definitely wait till a tour begins because they are an excellent introduction to the history of the place and great fun too. I've been on the tour twice and both the Beefeaters were witty, informative and very friendly and open to questions.

Once the tour is over, the first place to go is the treasury where the crown jewels are kept. These are impressive but as an Indian I won't be admiring them too much since the British stole the Kohinoor diamond from us and haven't given it back!

The other exhibits are really good, especially the weaponry display and the torture rooms. The exhibit on the two lost princes is also interesting. I wish there had been more on Anne Boleyn and Elizabeth I though. After all one was beheaded here and the other spent some crucial years here. The chapel is a very moving and special place - I'm not sure if everyone goes there but our guide took us.

The cafeterias are surprisingly good and the shop very enticing. Well worth a visit especially for the history buff.
