We went here for a meal this evening and the food was very well cooked. As others here have said it is expensive for a main course but the buffet is reasonable at £19.
The staff at the bar were friendly and welcoming and we were made to feel at home.
Our waitress was efficient and took the order as soon as we were ready. some of our party had the buffet and others just a main course. The buffet was ready straight away but those who had a main course from the menu were waiting a long time (1/2 hour +) for it to come. One of our party helped theirself to 2 slices of bread on the buffet table and a patt of butter while they were waiting – there was no bread on our table or on the menu to order.
The waitress came over and told them that they must not help theirself to anything on the buffet table not even the bread. So we asked for some bread and we were charged £2 for 6 slices from a french stick.
The main courses were nice and very well cooked but not really worth the price as it was not that special really.
To sum up I would say its ok to try once or twice but not as a regular eating place. The buffet is the best value.

Well we went in the week, so we had this special 3 course menu. For a starter I had the saltfish fritters(saltfish is salted cod, much nicer than it sounds). It was gorgeous a truly stunning taste which was brilliant, the sauce really brings out the flavour and isn't spicy but tangy.
For my main course, I had the ackee and mushroom (ackee fruit, looks like scrambled egg) I have had the ackee and saltfish but I personally think that the ackee and mushroom is tastier because the peppers really bring out the soft and fresh taste of the ackee.
For my pudding, I had banana fritters with a syrup; this is the utter taste of heaven, it was the perfect taste.I would change nothing about this pudding. For those who don't like banana, they have pineapple which is nearly as delicious. The prices weren't cheap but reasonable, considering how perfect my meal was.

£14 for a main course?? Nowadays?? Sounds pretty reasonable to me frankly, especially if as most reviews say, the food is very good. Plus it must be quite expensive sourcing exotic ingredients like plantains on the menu. Perspective! I’ll definitely try it…

I loved the Plantation although I can see why some people considered it pricey. I had the buffet set meal and that was a bit dear at £19 a head but it did include a starter and a dessert and then lots of dishes were brought to the table. There was fried plantain, curried goat, jerk chicken, rice, vegetables, vegetables with Aaci (?), and a few other things including sweet potato fries. For the price I guess I expected to have a lot of food but it was just the right amount. None of the food was greasy, in fact quite the opposite, it was all well cooked and the rice was soft and fluffy. The plantain was just delicious and the sweet potato chips were perfect and just right. I could have kept eating even when I was full. The service was discreet and consistent and that was fine because there was a large group of us. The wine was reasonably priced. The dessert was interesting - i ordered a sweet potato pudding which was vegan and tasted a lot like a slightly bland sticky toffee pudding. The ice cream that accompanied it was very tasty. I would definitely go again but as others have suggested I do expect it to be slightly more pricey than other restaurants.

I have to confess to being a bit disappointed with the Plantation restaurant. I'd booked it to celebrate a special birthday occassion and was promised that they'd help make it a great night. But no extra effort was made at all. The food was wonderful - beautifully presented and very tasty. Main courses were generous portions which was good, given the price. One of my friends ordered curried goat which was unacceptable when it came, but was changed quickly when the problem was pointed out. Service was a bit hit or miss and the ambience and comfort of the restaurant sucked. I wont be going again.

This restaurant is just too expensive for most people. Main courses average in price at about £14. Whoa! The food is very very nice though, and the staff are friendly. There are also various Carribean theme nights happening once in a while, which are good for the ambience, but if you want to have a more affordable (and just as nice) meal, I think Tasties in St Paul's is the best place to go, at almost a third of the price.

This is worth a visit just for the exquisitely prepared plantain, although all the dishes I have tried have been wonderful. It is quite expensive but the buffet option makes it more affordable. I loved the BBQ chicken and sweet potato fries. If you are a fan of carribean food, or just fancy a change this is a must try.

If you don't know what to have, the waiting staff seem to have lots of good suggestions. A common favourite is curried goat, and both times I have had this it has been cooked to perfection. Portions are very large, and there are plenty of interesting side dishes with which you can accompany your meal. However, it certainly isn't cheap: main courses are in the region of 12 to 18 pounds. Moreover, the bright interior, huge uncovered windows facing straight onto the street, hard floors and Ikea-inspired furniature might not be to everone's taste. Sit at the back for the cosiest ambience.
