Strangely I have been disappointed by a lot of the banger and mash meals I’ve attempted at gastro pubs so perhaps this is one I should try. I would be extremely impressed if they had boerewors - a traditional sausage from home in South Africa.
Sorry, this place is no longer open for business, but we've saved the reviews for posterity.

I've been here a few times and yesterday was the latest time. I like their food and the chorizo sandwich in particular. I ordered it, ate and enjoyed it. Job well done!
My only gripe is the customer service or lack of it. The person that took my order hardly made eye contact as he was too interested in the action taking place in Portobello Road. When someone hands you your change and doesn't even look I just think its disrespectful. Really! Customer service isn't hard but I guess it is but when you haven't got a clue. Good food, customer experience needs to improve.

While Banger Bros is known for their exceptionally good quality sausages, all of their breakfast and sandwich items are absolutely divine! The philosophy of their ingredients is “organic, free range & rare breed” and it certainly comes through in their dishes. The friendly staff and great location make this place a must!
To start off I must talk about their mouth watering bangers. From the Cumberland, the Smokey Polish, to the Dog, all their sausages are to die for. The best one and by far my favourite dish at Banger Bros is the Spanish Chorizo. This award winning sandwich is composed of chorizo sausage with rocket, piquillo pepper and aioli. The intensely flavourful sausage is by far the best banger I’ve ever had! Another favourite of mine is the Mediterranean Vegetarian which is surprising is made up of a tomato sausage along with courgettes, peppers, rocket and aioli. The texture was perfect and the flavours melted together. It was nice to have a vegetarian option in a place known for meats that was a truly delicious alternative.
Next, the variety of exotic sandwiches is a must! The Chicken Tikka, the Moroccan “Sliders”, and the Portuguese Chicken are all wonderfully flavoured and are a great alternative to a banger. My favourite however was The Burger: a big and juicy beef patty with lettuce, tomato, and their special sauce. The quality of free range organic beef really comes through in this delicious burger. Paired with the extra crispy, twice-cooked chips are a great way to turn an amazing burger into a marvellous meal.
Banger Bros also had a surprisingly delicious breakfast variety. They did have a banger called The Breakfast which was composed of decadent thick cut bacon paired with sausage and egg all on an English muffin which was to be expected in a banger place. However, the amazing granola with organic yogurt and wild honey was by far one of the best granolas I have ever had the joy of tasting. The chef Michael explains that the granola, along with other Indian sauces is shipped directly from India weekly and he prepares the granola fresh every morning. This amazing granola made fresh in a banger restaurant was a wonderful surprise!
So the next time you are in the Portobello Market area, swing by Banger Bros for a wonderful food experience and fresh, organic food that you can feel good about. The name may fool you, but this place has a variety of wonderful dishes that are sure to pleasantly surprise you.

I have tried Banger Bros for the first time. I liked the hotdogs. But who designed such an awkward box for a hot dog!? It’s easy to carry, but definitely not suitable for eating on the go! Has anyone ever tried to use it before approving it? You will end up using your hands anyway as the box is difficult to hold and eat from. I asked for just a wrap instead of the box, but they did not have any. The fries were already fried before, greasy and not freshly tasting! Who come up with another stupid idea to fry them twice? Yuk!

Ridiculously fatty and tasty! If my waistline and heart could cope I'd be here more often!

I have something to confess. I like sausages. I also like design and new concepts. Banger Bros combines all of the above. A bunch of smart guys have reinvented the sausage (or banger) food stall and launched a small chain of carefully designed shops instantly cooking delicious sausage-based sandwiches. I have tried the Portobello one and the Selfridges one (in the Food Hall) and have had really good food. They have it all: The British banger, the Cumberland, the Hotdog, the Spanish Chorizo, the lamb merguez, and even a meat-free sausage (not for me!). They recently launched a few salads with sausages and also offer all-day breakfast bangers. Great attention to detail in the design with the wooden counter, the shiny butcher-type tiles on the wall, the black board with the menu and the stainless steel industrial cooker. I just love it and at £3.95 the hot sandwich it is not cheap but fair.

Urbanite, 2 August 2008:
This tiny shop on the Portobello Road is right in the heart of the fruit and veg market and a welcome pit-stop for visitors. The concept is simple, they choose fantastic quality sausages of different varieties, and bung them in a nice bread roll for you to munch on with onions and mustard and whatever else you want. Choose between a British banger, a smoky Polish sausage, chorizo from the nearby Garcia’s Deli and offerings from Toulouse. The Banger Bros Breakfast is particularly good value, with a big Cumberland sausage, egg, bacon (I think!) and a cuppa for something like £2.50!
So, four stars for Banger Bros. My only gripe? The things that arn’t sausages could be better value. Salads here look good but are absurdly expensive, as are chips and cold drinks. Sort that out, and they would get five stars from me in a flash.

This is possibly the smallest eating hole you will ever lunch or dine in. There is practically no seating- although you might be lucky enough to find a window stool to perch on overlooking Portobello Road. This is more like a fast food, eat whilst you stand, or buy your food and leave sort of place. However, it is not you usual fast food place. They serve all kinds of sausages (literally, the have the widest variety you will ever come across!) in a bun or with salad. It comes in a Chinese food take away style container so you can eat as you stroll in the market or off your lap. The food is excellent and such a nice change if you want something cheap and quick.
