The Riverhouse

Without doubt the worst meal we've ever had! waited over an hour and a half for our food. orders were wrong, they forgot the kids food. Food was cold. Stir fry was made from carrot peelings and chicken was stone cold and tasted rank. Asked 5 times for more water and didn't get it. Had to get our own cutlery as they forgot it. This was a celebration meal for my dad and they basically ruined our day with their crappy food and service.

I struggled with what category to put this place in... is it a pub masquerading as a restaurant or a restaurant with pub like tendencies???
It is the only (semi) affordable place in windsor or eton that is actually on the river (the only alternative being the house on the bridge which is a good, but very pricy, 'posh' restaurant)
In the summer the outside tables are packed, and so they deserve to be. Watch the ducks, swans and boats meander past while working your way through the really rather good wine list (i recommend the chilean red... )
The menu is a bit special- gastro pub style, really well presented and fresh. Main courses run from about £12 to just over £20- with starters and desserts around £5 to £8 each.
It isnt a place for a cheap bite- 2 courses and a bottle of wine came to £85 for 2, but given the atmosphere, location, quality and really friendly efficient service I would say its up there as one of my windsor favourites!
