wass ’apping bra. Totally went to Wallys da uvver day. proper tidy innit. bought some banging sandwiches. safe as. Oh hello Mother. Did not see you there.
I love Wally's Delicatessen! I have been buying their products for many years as did my Mum and Dad before me! They stock a fantastic variety of fresh foods that you just can't get anywhere else in the South Wales area. Their staff are always friendly and courteous and shopping there is always a pleasant experience.
I think one or two of the comments about the Olive Bar are unfair, though, because I have visited Delicatessens all over the world and found that the best delis and food halls display their olives openly like Wally's.
Naturally, we should always be concerned about food hygiene but I have a friend who works for the Environmental Health Authority and he told me that the open display of olives is recognised by them as satisfactory.
So I believe that the potential risks to public health are minimal.
Fantastic place amazing choice and grat customer service - best Deli in Cardiff

I've been going to Wallys, and even its predecessor (Saloman's) for about 50 years. It's still great, but they are now very expensive. I recently bought a product (matzo) that I hadn't found elsewhere recently, then went to a different branch of Tesco's and found it for less than half the Wally's price. They still have great cheeses, meats and all sorts of stuff you don't find elsewhere.
Personal favourites are the Cambazola (one of the few blue cheeses I really like), the Petit Tourtain cheese, the own-brand curried chutney, the herring fillets without onion (I can't eat raw onion), too many meats to mention, Krakus Dill cucumbers, the half price German biscuits and cakes after Christmas...
Mind you Asda in Cardiff Bay has a pretty good world food section, including many Polish sausages!
I agree with comments about open selection of olives - I've seen people at Tesco's open olive displays sneeze over them, spit the stones back to the bowls etc - completely unhygienic. Perhaps less likely with Wally's clientele, but I wouldn't buy them.
I love this place...simpply because they sell "world foods" which is hard to find in Cardiff. They have a South African and Auzzie sections (I am South African so this is great!), they also have polish and american food and a great fresh deli section with amazing olives. Abit pricey but you do get what you pay for, so if you want something special this is the place to go.
The deli was good before the extension so now it’s absolute foodie heaven. You can buy things that you just can’t find anywhere else in the city (and beleive me, I’ve tried!!). They offer goods from across the world for every type of cusine.
The only thing I would change (and this is just a bit of friendly constructive criticism) would be to cover up the olives on the self service counter. Not only could flies etc get to them but what with the recent swine flu scares I’m a bit hesitant to get the olives from there now because they’re so exposed. I’ve had to go elsewhere, even though the alternatives don’t have such good choice.
Wally’s delicatessen have recently added more space to their store by taking up spaceoccupied by the shop next door
It of course means that the normal selection of goods has been greatly augmented . For example they now have a cheese counter with a wider selection of cheeses from both Britain and Europe There is hardly any cheese that you require that is not on display. They have also a counter with self service of large stuffed olives in olive oil. The inside’s are many and various including garlic if that is your taste . Mention should also be made of the coffee counter that has a wide variety of coffee beans I intend slowly going though them. So far I have sampled the Mocha that has a wonderful aroma and a chocolate/ coffee flavour. Together with their normal delicatessen foods and spices the new addition to the store makes it probably the finest establishment of its type in the city .
I love Wally’s! If you can’t find an ingredient anywhere else, then have a look here! They have a very good deli with lots of gorgeous cheeses and cured meats. The selection of tinned/jars goods is great and won’t be found anywhere else in the city centre. They were also the only place in Cardiff where I could find pinhead oatmeal! Well worth a visit.
Great for salami and oreos can’t find either anywhere else for a better price. It’s a handy place to go on a lunch break to pick up some food and very kind on the old wallet.
This place is great- every time I go in there, I end up buying something I never even knew existed. Foods are from all over the world- and its not too expensive either. This place is much better to buy your snacks from as its mostly healthy stuff- well, without all the added sugar etc. I couldn’t find some seaseme sticks, asked one of the assistants and they knew where they were- score!!.
Fab little deli with alot of choices. Staff are knowledgable and willing to give advice and tips. So much to try and you’ll come away with much more than you went in for originally! As soon as you walk in your hit by so many smells and it tickles your taste bud from the moment you step foot inside!
Wally’s Deli is a specialist foods shop located in the Royal Arcade in Cardiff. The Arcades are a rather famous and quite atmospheric series of Victorian streets which have been roofed over and provide a great afternoon of shopping on the frequent rainy days that Cardiff enjoys!
The Royal Arcade is the arcade closest to the main shopping district of Cardiff city centre.
Wally’s is a rather small shop that is filled to the rafters with a large variety of foodstuffs, most from Europe (they carry a large selection of German and Polish items) and a smaller amount from Africa and Asia. Wally’s carries everything from dry cooking ingredients to hot sauce from the USA to unusual import beers and freshly sliced deli meats. The prices are fairly reasonable (they are slightly inflated, which probably is justified due to import) and the staff is very friendly and always generous with samples. If you’re curious about food from afar and looking for a culinary adventure, just walk in and ask for a recommendation!
Fab deli with lots of international foods - the food from South Africa is great and means that you dont have to search the internet for those special treats from home! The customer service is great, with the staff always willing to help you out. The Billtong is gorgeous, with a few unusual meat varities to try.
First class novel shop for lovely ingredients. A must if you are going into Cardiff city centre. The smell is amazing, and the range of products in this deli is outstanding.
wally’s is the ultimate place to go at this time of year! you can’t help but feel christmassy! reasonably priced products, and staff are always happy to help! a lovely christmas present idea for someone who has everything is a hamper, and luckily, wally’s has everything you need to make a luxury hamper for a very reasonable price.
the shop smells delicious, stocks top quality produce made from the finest ingredients, and I can’t wait to go back there to stock up on my dad’s stocking fillers! (he loves their halva) wally’s is slightly off the beaten track being in the arcade, but is like a little aladdin’s cave of goodies; and well worth looking for!
If you are looking for specialist food items this is the place to go. With a great selection of items i found the perfect gift for my food loving chef friend - i think it has a really nice oldy world feel to it as well. Its good fun to go in and have a nose around at all the different things you can get.
Fantastic deli, arguably the BEST one in Cardiff.
Have been coming here for years and they stock the expected and unexpected.
Meats, cheese, pates, pastas and sauce. Biscuits and sweets. Dried fruit. Huge bottles and containers of oils. I love coming here for the smells that come from the shops and never leave here without buying something.
found this by acident on recent shopping trip-a very happy accident!really fab shop-the smells and sights as you go in makes my mouth water even thinking about it now!love it
I love Wally’s, the smell gets you before you even step in the door! If you love meat and cheese you are definitely in for a treat. Amazing range of deli counter food - I love the Boar pate… yum…...
Also a big fan of the speciality and imported food they have here. It was the first place I found in the UK that stocked Milo (an Australian chocolate and malt drink) and they do a great range of Asian foods too. The staff are really helpful and know their stuff.
Be careful if you have lots of bags with you, it’s such an Aladdin’s cave that I’m always worried I’m going to knock a pile of tins off the shelves!
Words struggle to describe how great this place really is! You name the ingredient and they have it - or they will go out of their way to get it for you. The staff are so helpful, and really know their stuff, giving you a great shopping experience.
Lots of different ranges are crammed into this Tardis-like store. The smell of all the ingredients is heavenly. I often just pop in for some inspiration (not to mention stocking up on all the continental biscuits!)
There is a fantastic range of produce on offer, meats, cheeses, dry ingredients, canned goods, but you really have to experience it for yourself to believe it. A real gem.
