Review of Papaji's from 13 September 2011

Recommended to me by my mate Cosmo who lives in Nailsea, Cant, say I was overly excited about the prospect and was completely UNDERwhelmed by my experience here.Everything is over-priced and the quality definately iffy. The decor is good is about allI can say about the place but it full of posers and wannabee cliftonites so its not eactly relaxing.
I think the words “Emperors new clothes” spring to mind

If you like a sweet cocktail visit Papajis and order a Porn Star Martini - a passionfruit & vodka based cocktail with a prosecco chaser for a little over-the-top glamour!

I’ve visited this bar in its various formations over the years and since the launch last November, following the refurbishment these guys have showed great service and style.

The bar itself has a great décor and split over two floors offers separate areas for evening drinks or food. For those not aware there is also a spacious outdoor garden around the back, which is great for the summer months.

This is a bar that has top be revisited at different times of the day, of the week and for different occasions. There is a brunch menu to set you up for the day ahead (eggs are always perfectly cooked!) which can be accompanied by the vast menu of teas or a coffee, as the day goes on, go back for afternoon tea, have a cocktail making session for that special occasion or throw on your glad rags and return in the evening for a classy night of cocktails and live DJ..

Over 75 loose leaf boutique teas. Serving brunch, afternoon tea and dinner. The best brunch and the only afternoon tea on Whiteladies Road. Great food with unique tea infusions and tantalising tea cocktails.

Review of Papaji's from 15 September 2010 (updated on 27 September 2010)

This was seriously mediocre, though i really, really wanted to like it. The tea was average to tasteless. If you want good tea, I can recommend the tea house in Cardiff suburbs or the tea place in Bradford-on-Avon. The scones were good and the service good. Garden very nice.

Review of Papaji's from 4 March 2010

There is something that felt just right when i went into Papaji's at the weekend. The owner, Andy welcomed me into his tea bar, and ushered me onto a plush leather sofa. A few minutes later he asked if I was ready for him to take my order. I asked if he could surprise me. A short time later, he brought me over a pot of Indian Chai tea latte. It was fragrant and tasted wonderful. This was my first - and now definitely not my last Chai tea.

The décor inside is relaxing and welcoming. Adding to the chilled atmosphere was music, happily this was at a level where conversation was not made difficult. The ambience is laid back, not like other tea bars i have visited or a certain American coffee chain I could mention!

The next morning I had breakfast at Papaji's. I had the Full English Breakfast (with another cheeky Chai tea!). It was delicious, and filled me up until late afternoon.

I would definitely recommend anyone to go and spend some quality 'fika' time at Papaji's. This was the highlight of my trip to Bristol. It was very reasonable for food and drink, and a bargain compared to London prices!

Review of Papaji's from 25 February 2010

'Papa Ji's house of teas' to give it it's full name, used to be Tequila Max until it was recently purchased and refurbished by husband wife team Stef and Andy Dodd.

You won't recognise this as tequila max any more. Stef and Andy have really gone all out and the decor is contemporary, minimal and very high quality, they even have a garden out the back. This really is a wonderful place to relax, dine and party in.

Papa Ji's offers soemthing very different, on top of being a cafe / restaurant as well as a superb cocktail bar (the owner Andy used to manage the park bar on the triangle when it used to be amazing) it has over 30 different teas to try.

These aren't your typical earl greys or even strawberry and mango infusions but a selection of green, black and white teas all the way from darjeeling.

The food is excellent, drink quality and selection is second to none and the service is impeccable.

To sum this place up it's got everything, you could bring the family here for breakfast lunch and dinner. Have a family or work function, or a late night of cocktails. Expect Papa Ji's to be the place to be seen when it gets dark as one of, if not the finest bar in Bristol.

Review of Papaji's from 10 October 2009

Had dinner at Papaji's last night and was awesome. Food's amazing, staff are wicked, drinks are so good. Had an amazing piece of steak.

I've had afternoon tea there too and there's no where else as good near here. Everything is fresh and home made...really worth having a look in.

I popped into Papaji's on the way home from work and had the most amazing afternoon tea. If you like tea, cake, scones or sandwiches then you have to go and check it out. There were over 50 types of tea in the tea menu! I had a look at the evening meal menu and there were loads of tasty things in there. The tea house is where Tequila Max used to be but looks completely different. It is certainly something very different on Whiteladies Road and is worth going to check out - I can't wait to go back and sample the tea-infused cocktails!
