H E Tidiman

A proper old school family butcher. He's been at it for 52 years, and all on this street. Watching him hack away with a huge chopper only millimetres from his fingers is impressive indeed. If you're after some quality meats, combined with a little butchery expertise, a visit is highly recommended.

Tidiman are located bang in the middle of what has become the ridiculously trendy and usually mobbed Broadway Market, and they are still going strong, I would presume due to the high quality of products they serve at competitive prices and, unlike the supermarkets, it is fresh and handled and prepared by someone that knows their game. Literally.

For the record - not that this is much compensation for either the animals or offended vegetarians - eating meat is a cause of moral conflict to me. But, I still indulge, like an apologetic hangman whose final words of comfort as you linger on his gallows are: "it's a dirty job, but someone's got to do it."
