Hoxton Salon

I used to live round the corner from Hoxton Square many years ago, more or less before it was the trendy enclave it is now. Returning a couple of weeks ago, I was amazed how little had changed on the western side of Old Street tube station however the east side is more or less unrecognisable.

It is slightly disingenuous to make comments about life imitating art in Hoxton however Charley Brooker and Chris Morris clearly had access to a time machine when they got together to write the ever brilliant Nathan Barley back in 2005. 

So on my trip down (or is that up?) memory lane, it was completely refreshing to drop in to see the Hoxton Salon family who lie just a road away (but the right side of reality) from Hoxton Sq and it's sideways haircut and onesie clad überkids.

I am not saying that Hoxton Salon is stuck in the past, far from it; it's just that they clearly focus on three main things:

1. A friendly 'East end' welcome
2. A great service - the reviews on this page alone attest to that 
3. Keeping in touch with their customers AND REMEMBERING THEM!

This might sound "obvs" but in my experience it's rare to find this these days particularly in the high fashion / high customer churn rate of local residents and yuppie blow-ins, never mind the health and beauty sector.

So in summary Hoxton Salon isn't your high temple of hair fashion & wellness treatments who care more about celebrity customer than people like you or me (although they do have their fair share) nor is it a 'cut and shut' merchant piling them high and selling cheap: It is more a small but perfectly formed example of how a great Salon could and should be run; i.e. for the benefit and enjoyment of it's customers, staff and owners.

I discovered Hoxton Salon a few years ago, when I started to work in nearby Old Street. And straight away I knew it was one of London's best-kept secrets. 

Paula and Hayley are both gorgeous, friendly and down-to-earth. But best of all, they really know their stuff. The girls deliver a professional, experienced and high quality wax every time.

I recommend everyone to get their waxing done at Hoxton Salon. It's a real diamond amongst many disappointing and overpriced salons in the area.

I was really nervous on who to use with my wedding coming up and having done a lot of research this place seemed to fit the bill. I took the plunge and what can I say another incredibly happy customer. They did a fantastic job with my hair and on the special day I could not have asked for anything better. Vicky is an excellent hairdresser, friendly, funny and you instantly feel at home when you go there. Highly recommend the place, its a gem. 

Best Salon in London for styling, colour, ambiance.

my wife and i have been looking for a salon with comparable service to the high-end ones in NYC – this is the one we found, and it is LOVELY. the service (we had Sep and Paula) was VERY friendly, we all had a really good time (lots of laughs and good conversation) PLUS they stayed an hour and a half after their closing time to take care of us! (i.e. not rushed) the cuts and colours were very professionally done and looked FANTASTIC. as a bonus, the cuts and colours we got were about 5 times less expensive than the very comparable ones we got in NYC at high end salons. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Loved this salon. Was my first time going there today, the staff were very friendly, the salon is in a great area for me too. I had my hair done by Sep. I’m really really happy with the colour and the cut! My hair was in Awful condition when I went in, but looked sooo much healthier when I left. He told me all about which treatments will work best for my hair and vitamins that i can take to build stronger hair.
All the colours and products they use a organic which is great.
Would defiantly recommend this place to anyone, was very happy and will be going back again!

I often have to travel up to London and time my visits to coincide with a
trip to Hoxton Salon. I love the organic colour systems highlights here -
I have fine hair and find this colour much gentler on my hair. Sep is my
colourist and Vicky my stylist. All the staff are friendly and genuine.
Feels more like a visit to friends than a trip to a salon. Paula, the
owner, makes sure everyone is looked after – I always look forward to
catching up with all her news. They do gorgeous loose leaf teas and really
tasty biscuits. If I have an evening appointment I get spoilt with a
couple of glasses of champagne. Lovely…

Hoxton Salon for me is like a home from home. I know that as soon as I arrive I’ll be greeted by delicious fresh coffee and/ or champagne, accompanied by the brightest smiles in London. But I don’t come here for refreshments only: Vicky saved me after my hair was ravaged years ago, and I let no-one else style me now. As regards waxing and the other beauty treatments Paula only uses organic products with the lightest touch, and her experience, skill and professionality make it the best waxing ever -you don’t even feel it and it lasts much longer. I used to get rashes all the time after waxing, but it completely stopped thanks to Paula. Again – only Paula can wax me, I would never let anywhere else do it. In fact, I bless the day I came across Hoxton salon – it really isn’t easy to find a salon that combines so perfectly excellence of service, best quality of styling and treatments, best organic products with warmth and friendliness.

I have been coming to Paula for waxing for many years now. I am always really pleased with the friendly and super skilled service. I always come back because the service is personalised and attentive to individual needs. I had tried many different salons before and I always felt the service was rough and rushed but not here. All the girls are really well trained- everyone takes pride in waxing to perfection. I highly recommend you try Hoxton Salon for waxing- you’ll never need to go anywhere else!

Not only were Hoxton Salon accommodating – fitting my hair appointment in last minute – but Sep (my hairdresser) was brilliant throughout.

I’ve lived in London for three years and have yet to find a hairdresser who I’ve liked enough to go back to, but I would definitely go back to Hoxton Salon. Sep did a fantastic job on my colour and cut – gave me a free hair treatment – and was great at explaining my options and what styles would suit me.

Hoxton Salon also managed to fit in my waxing treatments which was great as I didn’t have to go elsewhere. All in all a great salon with a great vibe and I’ll definitely be going back and recommend Sep as a hairdresser.

I have been going to Hoxton Salon for over a year now and would recommend to anybody. Paula and Hayley are amazing at waxing, almost pain free and such a friendly experience. Sep has done incredible work on my hair in hair cutting and dying. I love this salon and its so welcoming on your arrival, I feel like i am hanging out with close friends. The music is great, treatments are incredible and the people are just lovely and I always look forward to seeing them all, you MUST visit this salon.

A fantastic salon. I’ve been going since it opened and now won’t let anyone but Vicky cut my hair. She is an amazing hairdresser and I can’t believe the difference in my hair since i’ve been going to Hoxton Salon. All the staff are really friendly and it has a great atmosphere.

I just had my first appointment at Hoxton Salon and it was wonderful! The bikini wax that I received from Paula was the best I’ve ever had. Being a ginger, I’ve always been prone to sensitive skin/ingrown hairs. The green tea wax was gentle and the whole experience was as painfree as it could be. Her knowledge and expertise were wonderful and I have no doubt I will be coming back for the long term. I even made a haircut appointment for this upcoming weekend!

I’ve been visiting Hoxton Salon since it opened and before that Green Salon for my waxing, Paula & Hayley have always done a fantastic and thorough job! Unfortunately i’m no longer living or working near Hoxton Salon so I’m dreading the thought of finding somewhere new after 7 loyal years!

i get my waxing done by Hayley, she is fantastic and basically painfree. Everyone is the salon is friendly and I wouldn’t go anywhere else in the city.

I have had several haircuts over the years and have always struggled to tame my red hair. Paula Sep and Vicky made me feel on top of the world, I live abroad and was back in the U.K for a visit, living in a hot country is not the kindest places for anyones hair. Hoxton Salon left me with a beautiful blonde hint with my natural reds coming through, my hair felt amazing, I just could not stop playing with it. Thank you Paula and the team, best haircut ever!!!. I go here for my waxing and Paula and her team are ALWAYS personable, friendly and make a waxing appointment far less of an ordeal. I would recommend Paula especially for her waxing skills.

I love coming here! Waxing is the most pain-free I have experienced. Paula does a great job colouring my hair – friends always comment on how good the colour is – and Vicky cuts it beautifully. Everyone in the salon is really friendly, and it’s such a great place to come for a bit of ‘me’ time. I’ve been coming here for years, and I always leave with a spring in my step.

Having never had my long dark blonde hair coloured before, i was a little nervous… but I was longing for a sun-kissed natural look and a pick-me-up. My friend had had her hair done at Hoxton Salon and came out looking stunning, so I knew exactly where to go. After a few hours of chatting and pampering, coffee and champagne, I came out looking and feeling like a star. It’s not cheap, but its a worthwhile investment, and I would never trust anyone else to colour my hair! A couple of weeks later and my hair still looks gorgeous – natural and sun-kissed – exactly how I wanted it. I will definitely be back! Thank you!

Recently visited Hoxton Salon having spent 2 years trying pretty much every salon in East London. My last hair experience at a trendy well known salon left me with bleached blonde hair (I’d asked for highlights with my natural colour still visible) which was in awful condition & a wispy/blocky haircut that was very hard to manage.

As soon as I walked in I felt immediately comfortable & relaxed, Paula explained I needed a full colour correction & called her next clients to give us a little extra time. Whilst chatting away & sipping on Kir Royal… Paula turned my straw peroxide nightmare into the most amazing colour I have EVER had. Golden caramel highlights, with my natural colour woven back through – the organic colour as actually improved the quality of my hair rather than the dry frizzy effect bleach gives. Equally Vicky gave me a fantastic haircut – removed the thin wispy straggles that I’d been left with, my hairs naturally curly & hard to blow dry but actually it was a delight the first time I attempted it…now after a few days I get nice waves rather than a thick fuzzy mess that needs GHDs to tame it!

All in all, a fantastic experience & – couldnt be happier! Thanks so much girls
