As for walking down Stokes Croft - you never ever see the alcoholics etc there at night, as most live in hostels; and as it’s usually buzzing with 'normal’ people and happy 'student types’ until the wee hours there isn’t often any problems. Maybe, it’s because I spent most of my life in London, but it really isn’t that bad, and my 20 year-old daughter regularly walks through Stokes Croft at all hours since we moved to Montpelier almost 4 years ago!

This Banksy piece has recently been vandalise using red paint by a group called Appropriate Media. Fortunately the local community have done their best to repair the damage. I really don't see the point in this type of attack on such a well-loved piece of street art. You can see a photo of the vandalism here www.bristol-street-art.co.uk/street-art-blog/

The teddybear about to throw the molotov cocktail is superb and looks as good as it does in the pictures. It feels strange seeing the banksy in real life as opposed to the posters and postcards these days. The area itself is pretty much spot on for the wild wild west. I walked down jamaica street to see it and a fight nearly kicked off between some drunks. Not a place you want to go after dark.

Birbeck, 27 May 2009:
Located in Stokes Croft, this mural is probably Bristol’s most famous piece of graf / street art, and even better, it still looks great to this day.
Apparently the building it’s been stenciled / painted onto was in pretty bad disrepair & in the process of falling down, but has since been listed (to be protected), because of this Banksy mural being on the side wall! Don’t know how true that is, but if it is the case, just shows how far / mainstream Banksy has become these days & how street art is being viewed differently, not only by the public but also the councils.
It’s done very well to endure all these years.
There’s a lot of other very cool graf all around Stokes Croft as an aside, if you find yourself in Bristol & fancy a wander!

Iconic! Loved seeing all his work around town as I grew up here, glad to see all his hard work has paid off, especially like ones like this that reference bristol/the west country

It’s easy for me to take Banksy’s work for granted, having lived in Bristol all my life and seeing his work on a regular basis just plastered around the city. This is one of his best known pieces and pretty old now I think since it’s been there as long as I can remember driving past it (a few years). Definitely worth a look if you’re a graffiti fan and in the area as it still looks good now.
It’s in a part of town that most people would consider pretty scabby/scary but in the grand scheme of things it’s still the 'The Mild Mild West’
