Compliment

It seems incredible now that the presence of Supermarkets at major railway stations was unknown just 8 years ago: but so it was. This branch of Sainsbury's at Paddington station was heralded as the third of their then-new 'Local' chain, and the first major multiple to have a store within a railway station, when it was opened in November 1999.
This is actually quite a large version of the 'Local' branded stores, with high ceilings (although the aisles are irritatingly cramped). It focuses on the travelling public - lots of sandwiches, salads, fruit and veg for people wanting a snack for the journey, and basic provisions for busy commuters.
I have to say that, for sandwiches, I prefer M&S next door, but their fresh flowers are good value, and their wine section is good too - both suitable for a gift to take to your destination. The only things that let the store down are the narrow aisles - hard to navigate with luggage and a basket - and the often long queues to hard-pressed staff. A redeeming feature - very long opening hours.
