Rude waitress!!!!!!, we waited 15 minutes for a seat. Only wanted a milkshake and then was told we could not keep the seat without ordering food. Been there before and had much better time, they should fire the waitress and maybe then I would go back. The milkshakes tasted great anyways.

I did not plan to go to get a burger on that Sunday afternoon, but somehow ended up at Ed’s, after walking around in Soho.
This restaurant – while restaurant seems to be the wrong term actually – is very small. Very. Basically, you simple sit around the grill or kitchen at the centre. I went in, because it looked interesting, and I wanted to try Ed’s anyway one time.
The staff is funny, or weird. But not in a too bad way. But I can understand, that some people call them rude. Anyway, I cannot complain, they were not rude to me. But they were kind of rude to each other. But perhaps that’s just normal for them, so I didn’t really bother.
The food is not really cheap. While the burgers are reasonably priced, in my opinion, the fries are not. So together it’s not really that cheap. the good thing is, you can get a refill for your drink. If you want to.
It’s not the cleanest place too, but also okay in general.
The quality of the food is average. I didn’t expect too much, I did not get too much. It was okay.
I would not go there, to get a really good burger. I might go there again, because it’s a funny little place with these jukeboxes and the special (rude, weird, funny – kind of entertaining) staff.

My fiance and I come all the way from Nottingham once a month to visit Eds, but after our last experience there we will never visit again.
We called in on a Saturday and after sitting at the counter for twenty minutes a waitress threw two menus at us, after a further ten minutes she came back and my fiance asked for two milkshakes, she gave us a really dirty look and said “Are you Eating?” when he replied no she said “Then you won’t be served here so leave as you are taking up two seats that proper customers can use”.
We were somewhat shocked by the obnoxious attitude and with other diners staring at us as if we had committed some big crime. There was no notice to say we couldn’t purchase drinks without food anywhere in the diner, and it somehow spoilt all the good memories we had of other visits…
So if you are visiting London, remember if you want rude service and no apologies go to Eds… or like us take your custom elsewhere… We def won’t be going back…

I love ed's diner! a big fab of the oreo milkshakes, and kitkat sundaes.
Oh and the cheese fries...and the big bubba.
Well actually i love it all!! even down the juke boxes on your tables.
The food is always served quickly and the welcome is always warm.
one of my favourite places to go on a date with my boyfriend.

Why is 1* the lowest option? This place is awful.
Ok, so just off Piccadilly circus is never going to score highly with me because i'm always so grumpy just getting there, but on the occasion that I had the misfortune to go along with a client who raved about it, we sat at a window bar table (these stools are quite simply the most uncomfortable thing i've ever experienced)
The table was dirty on the surface, and underneath so I got covered in someone else's mustard and ketchup (how does that get under a counter?!), all over my gorgeous cream silk trousers. No apology from the manager for their lack of cleanliness.
The burgers are vile. Grey, overcooked, dry bread, limp salad. Nice fries thankfully! Then the milkshakes.. great menu, just not actually that nice... the milk tastes odd (not bad, just odd) perhaps they use cheap icecream, or uht milk?? and way way too sweet...

My only reason for going here was their hot delicious fresh waffles. And how they are serving half stale pre-made ones instead.

I am in London only since 1 month but it is my favorite restaurant in Soho ! If you like the same atmosphere like the movie American Graffity, don't hesitate and come to sample a burger or a milkshake ! The service is perfect and the price are cheap.

This spot has true American diner flair. I stopped in just before the opening time for Priscilla (musical playing just around the corner). The food was greasy as it should be and the service was prompt and friendly. I shared a hot dog and fries and onion rings but the burgers looked promising too. The bonuses were the root beer on tap and the working jukebox stations! I'd recommend it for anyone feeling nostalgic for good ol' U S of A or just a nice fun meal and a quirky environment.

I've unfortunately only been here once for milkshakes with friends, but it was enough to say that I really enjoyed my experience and would like to go again :) The inside and outside have the whole 50's/60's American diner feel, and being an American living in London (from New Jersey too, the diner capital), it was nice to have a little reminder of home. The music was the same sort of 50's and 60's, I recall hearing a bit of Elvis as well as a bit of Billie Holiday. The downside is that the venue IS quite small, so I imagine when it's busy, it's pretty hard to move around =/
Now all 3 of us got milkshakes, not even knowing about their reputation for the good stuff. We each tried a bit of each others, one vanilla, one mint, and one banana; all three were amazing. The milkshakes set you back between £3.65 and £3.95 (depending on if you want their basics or something a little more fun), but bear in mind you get TWO glasses full of the heavenly stuff :)
The only reason for me to give it 3 stars instead of 4 would be that the staff seemed a little rude to us when we came in, which is unfortunate considering all the other reviewers here found the staff friendly. Maybe next time they'll be a bit warmer :]

Small american diner in Soho, just off Charing Cross Rd. Every star I rate on this one goes for the heavenly sweet butterscotch milkshakes - to die for.

I've just came back from a long awaited reunion with my friends. We met at Ed's because the last time (about 7 months ago) we had a great time there, with good food and friendly staff. On this occasion however the experience was appalling. We were rushed from the moment we stepped inside, pushed to place an order and when I asked for a refill of coffee, the manager gave me a very 'dirty' look! Instead of spending a nice relaxing time on a Friday evening, we felt like we were in Piccadilly circus station at rush hour shovelling some food into our mouths. So cutting a long story short, if you want to have an enjoyable and relaxing time do not go to Ed's Diner!!

Exactly!!! The looks they do give are dirty!!!
A little pricey for lunch but I love this version to the 60's American diner experience (a little more hammed up of course).
Chilli dogs are where it's at. I have to order these every time. The milkshakes are sublime and the blue cheese n fries tops off a fun eating experience at Ed's easy diner. A meal comes to about £12-£13 and is worth trying once for the experience.
Food is served up very quickly.

It's an overpriced novelty so I have compiled some handy alternatives:
Go to Gourmet Burger Kitchen if you want a good burger.
Go to Shakeaway if you want a fab milkshake.
Watch Back to the Future if want retro.

My sentimebhts entirely
Wow-I wish I'd read all these reviews before going...
Milkshake (PB+Banana) was awesome and filling,
kinda like 5$ shake from Pulp Fiction :))))
Food hmmm....onion rings and chips were fine, burger didn't taste like anything...wish I didn't have food at all :)))))) no need for it, 1000kcal comes in the shake. Too bad they don't offer a cosier seating because a nap after meal is totally necessary...

Oh Ed's. How I love thee.
Except I've never eaten here. I've never heard anyone have anything positive to say about the food (there's rumours of it being frozen, which doesn't fill me with confidence). BUT, my goodness the milkshakes are yum.
I'm a sucker for a strawberry milkshake, but only the American kind that taste of fake strawberries. I don't want anything real. Synthetic strawberry is best. Let's not think about how bad it is for me, if you're in Eds you're not really thinking you're health.
I like the little mini juke boxes on the counter, but I'm not sure hearing Twist & Shout every five minutes makes for a relaxing environment. Nor does getting the table by the door and having people slam into you every five seconds. But, as long as the milkshakes are this yum, I'll keep popping in.

You like this place if you grew up eating cold garbage.
Only the best Grade D meat and big out of the bag chips from Iceland Supermart at gourmet burger prices!
The deco is fun and disney american diner like with a juke box. Yay.

Love, love, LOVE this place!
Yes, it’s pricey. Yes, it’s always busy. But once you are seated and settled none of that matters.
The food is yummy and straight forward; think hot dogs with fries, burgers etc and the milk shakes are out of this world!
A fun place to come while shopping or late at night (I think they are open until 1am).

Whatever you do, just once in your life try the banana and peanut butter milkshake. Your life won’t ever be the same again.
