Visited this place for the first a couple of weeks ago for a friends birthday and was pleasantly surprised. Great place to go for a birthday bash as you have the option of going into the back room to listen to the live bands or sit in the main bar for a drink and a chat with the added bonus of the outdoor balcony for the smokers. The only thing I would say is that for such a large venue they could do with having more than just one ladies loo!!!
this is definitely a weird one. it’s got the charme of a suburban old men’s club or youth hostel common room. the perfect antidote to many trendy places nearby. entertainment can be a bit hit and miss, but then it’s usually free and the atmosphere great.

If you’ve ever been to the Portobello Flea Market on a Saturday or a Sunday, there’s a good chance you’ve walked straight past this little gem of a pub/club/gallery/anything else arty. Situated underneath the Westway Flyover in between Portobello Road and Ladbroke Grove, through an unassuming little door and up a flight of steps, musicians, locals, market traders and artists can be found in here every day. During the day a huge selection of newspapers, games and books are available for you on request. The back room has been transformed in to an intimate music hall, where Mick Jones of The Clash amongst others plays a monthly gig. You also find regular folk, reggae, blues and acoustic nights and the atmosphere is always a party, so don’t go expecting a quiet one. Quintessentially Portobello.

Apparently new toilets are coming soon [with more ladies loos] the Tina [who runs the bar and venue with Dave Pitt] tells me.
They also have a great pre-carnival programme and are open during the big weekend.
