Compliment

We went to the Hellabrun Zoo today for the first time with our (2 year old) child. The entrance fee is not exactly cheap at 9€ for adults, but there are a lot of offers. Children under 4 get in for free. The zoo is a so-called "Geo-zoo", which means that the enclosures and animal species aren't arranged by type, but geographically. So animals which live on the same continent all live close to each other. The information boards on the enclosures are really comprehensive and give you a load of information, and not just about the animal you're looking at. This makes it really interesting for big kids as well! What we really found great about the zoo is that you can see most of the animals over moats, or behind glass without any annoying bars or fences. The large enclosures with the big trees also provide the animals with a relatively natural environment. There's also lots on offer for children in the zoo: a separate petting zoo and a super adventure playground. There are also pony rides, a little road for driving cars, camel rides and lots more. We would recommend anyone visiting the zoo (especially with even younger children) to arrive quite early, just as the zoo opens. We got there shortly after 8am and for nearly the first two hours were almost completely alone. Our little one got to see the animals really well and there were hardly any other visitors there to block his view ;-) Admittedly, most of the feeding does happen in the afternoon, so for people who are interested in that, it would be better to come later, but you will have to put up with all the other visitors. Incidentally, it was a Saturday during the summer holidays when we were there, and it was really great during the morning - I'd recommend it to anyone. It's also worth having a look at the zoo's website before you set off. There are often special activities, such as easter egg hunts during easter, or chocolate ladybird hunts at Pentecost, etc.
