A fantastic south Indian curry house. They do a wonderful range of dishes from Kerala, and some particularly fabulous vegetarian options. The deco isn’t modern, but the atmosphere is cosy and the service friendly. It’s a bit of a Kilburn institution (apparently Ken Livingstone loves it, but I’ve never bumped into him there) so book in advance on friday and saturdays. Highly recommended.

When we go out for a family meal, we often end up going to VJ's - it's an Indian restaurant that doesn't disappoint. It is always packed out, whatever day of the week you go. The menu and food is authentic - yes, you can get familiar 'English' curries, but that would be a shame as the real treat about this place is that you get proper Indian food which you so rarely find. The dosai are worth mentioning, and the vegetarian options are spectacular, and I am saying that as a devoted carnivore. And it's cheap. As it's situated behind the main road in Kilburn, it's popular by word of mouth rather than passing trade. I would definitely recommend booking if you are planning a visit, rather than just dropping in.
