Tonight my wife and I decided to go out for a meal; our 6 year old was being looked after so we had the night to our selves. After discussing where to eat we agreed to go to the 6 Bells in Thame as we had looked at their menu while out for a drink in Thame prior to the Christmas break. We arranged a table for 7.30 and the taxi got us there on time, we ordered a Camembert starter to share as my wife is a vegetarian and was the only veggie starter there apart from bread with humus and olives!! I ordered the fish and chips and my wife ordered a Portobello Mushroom Herb Encrusted Tatin!!!! The starter had sold out at the lunch service with little or no option showing poor management, we discussed for some time weather to stay or go. We made the wrong choice! We stayed!!!!
The mains came out; the fish and chips I had ordered came out and were perfectly mediocre! It was obviously not made fresh on site; my wife discovered that far from a Portobello mushroom being used on her main it as more like a tin of button mushrooms that had been shown the pan. The pastry was undercooked and the rosty was raw onion in the middle. After complaining to the management the main was taken back to the kitchen. I finished my main before my wife saw her warmed up slop back! The service was very poor, the answers where “I can’t see that it’s under cooked but if you say it is then it is!” whatever happened to “let me have that re done for you”.
Yes the veggie meal was taken off the bill however 1.it should have been because my dog wouldn’t have eaten it, 2. The service was appalling. 3. If you can’t cook vegetarian food don’t offer it 4. If you can’t cook don’t. 5. Practice your customer skills
BUT MOAST OF ALL IF YOU WANT A GOOD NIGHT OUT DONT HAVE IT AT THE 6 BELLS, YOUR BETTER OFF AT A KABAB VAN YOULL GET BETTER FOOD AND BETTER SERVICE PLUS THEY CAN ALWAYS OFFER A SALAD TO YOUR VEGITERIAN FRIENDS.

We had our departmental Christmas Lunch at the Six Bells last week which was booked at least a month before. All I can say it is without doubt the worst meal I have ever had (and that includes 1970's school dinners). I am not a fussy person but the dried up turkey fillet (of the kind you usually chop up to make sweet and sour) resembled very overcooked bacon. One measly roast potato, a quarter of a parsnip, half a chipolata, one roast chestnut, a teaspoonful of cabbage with seven sprouts was it! A two year old would be left wanting. All this was at the second attempt after complaining as the first completely inedible and tepid. It was a meal fit for Ebenezer Scrooge himself.
I will never eat here again and neither will the other 11 people that accompanied me. In a town with many other eating establishments the Six Bells will have to do much much better.....
It would have no stars if that was allowed

Nice tudor building, black beams all round.
The six bells burger was really nice, it came with skinny fries seasoned in pepper.
My girlfriend had battered cod with mushy minted peas & potato wedges, but the wedges were a bit over cooked.
Would recommend this pub for a meal for adults.

We love to visit this pub on a sunday lunch as there is always great specials and the food is always very tasty. The prices are also very reasonable which is another reason this place is quite popular! The building is old and full of character and there is plenty of space to sit each room quite cosy. There is always quite a large beer garden which is great on those sunny days and also off the road out the back so can be a quiet spot to sit and chill.

Six Bells on the High street of Thame is a very old (1545) cosy laid back pub where you can spend the afternoon with nearly the whole pub to yourself chatting away over a cider. Its tudor style and has a big outdoor area out the back for those warm days.
Pop in if you are in Thame - they serve food from 12-9.
I was there all afternoon on one rainy day, loved every minute of it!
