You're brought spicy popadums on being seated. Most of the starters are all recognisable, but the menu might benefit from having an 'English' translation, or at least explanantion of the dishes. However our waiter was happy to try and explain. On this occasion, we had onion bhajis to start - which are unlike no other. More like finely sliced onions in batter. They are amazing. We also had mushroom bhajis which were comparatively less memorable. For mains we shared a mixed grill platter, with a vegetable curry and a slightly greasy bread, which wasn't a naan - yes we were experimenting when we ordered. But the food is great: freshly prepared and tasting subtely of different herbs and spices. Rounded off with two indian ice creams it came to exactly 31 pounds for two. Excellent value and I would not hesitate to return when next in the East End (or East side of The City).

I can go either way with Lassi. It depends on my mood I think.

Mirch Masala’s quality has significantly dropped in recent months and I’m no longer a regular visitor. The branch in Hounslow is still excellent but around here I go to Zaza’s instead.

Excellent value for money, very tasty authentic food, staff with a sense of humour, no queues and you can bring your own bottle! What more do you need?

It took us some time to find this restaurant but is was absolutely worth it. I had an excellent chicken curry and the best naan i have ever tasted. The service was quick and friendly and the prices were really low, especially for london. If I come back to london again a visit at Mirch Masala is on the top of my list ;-)
A reservation is recommended, we had none and luckily we just got the last available table.

One of the BEST places in town to get a Indian.
It is a 10 minute walk from the famous Brick Lane, however it is worth the walk.
Huge meals at an amazing price and it is BYO. (However never fail, there is an off licence right out side)

This place is a great find in Whitechapel. Don’t be put off by the red neon flashing restaurant sign, it is a gem. The curry is cheap and the staff are great. The décor is not amazing but the food makes up for it. It gets busy in the evenings but is a good place for a quick bite before heading out for the night.

great. You know these restaurants that are based in hidden places where you reckon they will never work? and then they are always full of locals?
try this rule of thumb, if you see indian people in an indian restaurant, japanesse in a japanesse…always worth it.
one of the best indian i have ever been, and i have eaten at many.
naan with green chillies, amazing, tender, hot as hell and yet full of chili flavour. shish was good, again hot, tasty.
curries, great. maybe not very cheap at 6-7 pounds, but, hey, you are not in brick lane anymore where you can get curries for 5 pounds and then play a bit of hide-and-seek with the meat under the sauce.
I asked for jalfrezi, and it was delicious. my friend ate vindaloo and he was pleased as well. service was really really friendly.
we paid less than 20 pounds
please go!!!!!

Mirch Masala has been one of Tooting's most popular Indian restaurants for ages. Its new branch in Whitechapel does not disappoint. The decor is basic but that's not why people go there....all that matters is its great food at cheap prices.
The menu is traditional Indian/Pakistani cuisine. Some of the highlights are Chicken tikkas which are superb and the naan bread is fresh from the oven. The service is polite and quick. Its best to book for an evening table as the place gets pretty jammed by 8ish.
