Gilgamesh lived up to all my expectations in terms of grandeur, ambience, service, and the quality of food. I was pleasantly and the enextensive (and expensive) cocktail list.
I had the set 3-course menu which was really more of a 5-course meal given that the starter course consisted of 3 small but satisfying dishes. I couldn’t choose an absolute favourite part of the meal as everything I had was superb but I think the duck and watermelon salad with mint and cashews deserves a special mention. The other 2 starters were chicken yakitori and 4 pieces of a tuna maki roll.
For the main I had fish curry with trout dumplings, and it’s near impossible to describe just how pungent the dumplings were… If you adore trout, herring and other such delights then this would be right up your alley but it was just a tad too fishy for my taste. The green curry itself though was brilliant, and the dessert duo of chilli berry sorbet and green tea creme brulee was sublime. I had the fire caipirinha as well and it was very very sweet. It actually got better when the ice started melting. (Gasp! I know!!)

This place certainly makes an impact when you first walk in. The decor is intricate and visually impressive and has a very classy vibe. The food here is delicious if slightly overpriced, and it is always busy. But it does attract a certain crowd that may not be your type of thing, but you won’t know unless you try it i guess. Great location too, in the Camden Stables Market.

Wow what a place. How many restaurants in the world have an escalator that takes you to the reception area? One there we were greeted cordilly by the staff and had our coats whisked away! The main dining room is truely amazing an architectural jewel a huge curved ceiling fronted by a continuous window which runs the entire length of the restaurant. Its walls having friezes from the middle east and asia. Now the food..
We choose a selection of small dishes rather than mains. These were priced between £7-12. We had beautifully presented sushi containing salmon ,wasabi, and other raw fish. For fun this came to our table with dry ice billowing from it! We had an unusual salad of mellon and duck with was divine. Pork parcles. The wine list starts at £25 upwards.. We chose a Sicilian white at £28 nice and crisp light wine….The waiters were attentive without being annoying..Because the restaurant is so vast you are never really bothered by noise . For those who are romantically inclined the tables are huge the chairs beautifully comfortable. So reaching your partner could be difficult! One more bonus. If your a trainspoter(not me !) trains passs by the main window on a regular basis! I cant fault the restaurant at all. The food, service ambience were superb. Whilst not cheap! I will definately be going back. When you leave you descend down a huge staircase surrounded by an amazing carving. You can see were the £27 Million went! Enjoy!!

I was really surprised by Gilgamesh when we went there recently for a friend’s birthday brunch. I had no idea it was there, or that it was so huge and fancy. The amount of work that must have gone into the incredibly ornate carvings that cover the entire place is stunning.
There’s a separate bar area with very fancy drinks, nice to have before moving to a table in the dining area. Would be extra nice in summer, I think, when they can open the roof.
The menu was an odd mix of sushi, Thai, dim sum and much more. Everyone’s food was good. The place is not cheap by any means. I bet it’d be fun at night, though.
The service was very attentive and knowledgeable.
The men’s toilet was actually really fun. Huge, ornate, with a cool arc of urinals that’s hard to explain, but fun to pee in.

A night at Gilgamesh will be very special but also cause an extreme dent in your bank account. Situated in the heart of ‘indie central’ Camden, this stylish restuarant/bar is an extremely welcome change. The Babylonian ‘terracota’ look they have crafted looks extremely authentic and real. The first thing one sees after entering via the impressive entrance is the famous centre-piece bar, made out of Lapis stone. The rest of the furniture is stunning and the room is designed in such a way that it neither feels to spacious or too clustered. Most people go there for dinner followed by drinks at the bar though it is possible to just go to the bar. The food at the restuarant is exquisite and the presentation mind-boggling. The food on offer is a combination of Asian food. The dishes are ones to savour so don’t expect very large portions. The Dim-sum and the tempura are to die for. Once you’ve had your share at the dinner table, you will be impressed by the cocktails at the bar. THe bar-tenders are real experts and know how to serve you a drink with the whole spiel. Be prepared to pay up to 12 pounds for a cocktail. As the night goes on, the bar opens up some space for a mini-dance floor and the music is usually fairly mainstream.

Gilgamesh is a true gem. It is bang in the heart of Camden but off the main road, in the Stables. It’s not the sort of place you’d expect to find in Camden- it is completely different to most of the venues in this area. Slick, trendy and truly stylish this place will take your breath away from the moment you walk through the door. The door has two fire lanterns on each side and to enter the restaurant you go up an escalator which makes you feel a bit as though you are in a theme park. The ladies at reception are all gorgeously beautiful and are clothed in sexy black spray on jeans and polo necks, they will take you to your table or show you the bar area where you can sit and marvel at the décor for hours- the bar is possibly the longest you will ever see, and the woodwork on it is all handmade imported from Asia. Detail is key in this venue and I promise you- you will be in awe throughout your time here!

If you love your food with a Babyloynic theme then this is the place to be. Situated in the very heart of Camden Town, the Gilgamesh is an experience is something you will never forget.
The owners of this venture have given much consideration to a well thought out theme and concept which really sells well in an over saturated market.
The restaurant and bar depict the epic story of Gilgamesh who was the first heroic figure in Babylonian history.
The Lapis stone bar is the centrepiece of the venue and is considered to be the longest bar in the world. It was handcrafted in India by 10,000 strong team of craftsmen as are all of the furniture and furnishings. The bar’s deep wooden base is covered in beautifully intricately hand carved bronzing depicting scenes of Babylon from the Gilgamesh period.
