Makes being a member of the Tate entirely worthwhile. Apart from it being amazingly badly designed so the majority of the bar doesn’t get to gawp at the view when you do get a pew with a view, it’s well worth it. And there is something so extraordinary about being out on that little terrace, looking down at all the people idly meandering their way along the Southbank and then across to St Pauls and East to London Bridge, especially when all lit up after dark. The grub ain’t bad either with a good selection of cakes and savory snacks to help nourish you while sipping a glass of wine. The view helps make this one of my favourite bars in London only shame is, unless there are a few of you with Member’s cards you can’t go with a crowd. I rarely spend much time in the galleries but often just go to the member’s bar when I’m on the Southbank and sit reading if I can find a seat and indulge in being above it all. The perfect place to go if London is making you feel hemmed in and claustrophobic.

An interesting experience and I thought the dead birds shot through with the arrows was particularly tastefully done. I think perhaps though I am not as much a modernist as I am a traditionalist, being a fan of the pre-Raphaelites and so I didn’t enjoy this as much as others have.
Still, it contains an extensive collection and I do highly recommend it for the art entheuast.

Tate Modern is the best gallery in London, and I come here as often as possible.
An added benefit of membership is exclusive access to the members room on level 6. This also gets quite crowded, even if not quite as bad as the other places, and the view is just spectacular.
It is the perfect meeting place and destination after a walk along the Southbank.
They offer an imaginative choice of drinks and snacks.

I think there is a cafe on the 2nd and 4th floor of the tate modern, but the real place with the views, and the cool long bar is on the 7th floor. You can either relax with a drink at the window (it does get very crowded at peak times) or sit in the restaurant area where you are guaranteed a seat but not neccesarily a view.
Everything’s a bit pricey and the menu is really limited, but then the view is pretty good - and the museum was for free!
I’d suggest just come for a drink if you get the chance and wash down a bit of that surrealism.
I love the Tate modern, I love free galleries, and I really love the view from this bar.
