Just been for a fantastic Saturday lunch here. The food was first class, and while the service wasn't ultra-attentive, it was busy, the staff were knowledgeable, friendly and it gave us that little bit longer to relax on a sunny winter's day- we weren't in any rush!
The interior for me is just right: sensitively restored old bar area, that feels cared for without being stripped of its charm like so many gastropubs. Couples, families, groups, tourists and locals all mixed happily.
Menu-wise, I had kidneys and creamy mushrooms on toast, followed by a fantastic local rump of lamb served with pan heggarty potatoes (similar to dauphinoise). Other selections included fresh Cornish mackrel and very local steak were all great too, as were the starters and desserts.
All in all, very good ingredients cooked very well. And a great range of four real ales to go with it all! Recommended.
