a visit to Harrods is always a great pleasure, but Laduree is the cherry on the top! seriously delicious cakes , coffee and tea of another league, simply wonderful!
So macaroons…‘a meringue like baked confection’…conspicuous, brightly coloured and apparently luxurious enough to be branded with French sophistication. Oh and a price tag of too-much-for-a-miniscule-biscuit-type thing. But aside from that – tea at Laduree in Harrods is quite the quintessential British (Arab) experience. The interiors are completely unapologetic about their blinding bling-i-ness and the staff treat you like princesses. I’m all for it. Apparently one just opened recently in New York with queues. Would it be wrong if I went up to people in the queue and told them the shop window adds 10 pounds to the macaroons and they are much smaller than they look?
One of my favourite places in London, delicious macaroons and a surprisingly friendly atmosphere. I especially recommend the ‘Ispahan’ large macaron with Lychee and Rose. As for the small macarons, the salted caramel are extraordinarily delicious as are the vanilla, and all of the ‘fruity’ ones like red fruits, raspberry, and blackcurrant violet. If you’ve ever tried to make macarons at home you will understand why they are so expensive as they’re so difficult to make!

A delicious experience that is enhanced by the backdrop of Harrods. I love to sit outside in the summer for English Breakfast Tea and indulge myself in a small selection of Laduree (the green ones are my favourite) Divine!
This is my first try at macarons; I figured I'd do it right the first time :P I sampled a bunch of mini macarons and I have to say, while on a whole they tasted good, I don't think I'm a macaron person :P They are VERY rich, and the flavours are very strong. I have problems with chocolate cupcakes not being chocolatey enough, but now I have a problem with the chocolate macarons being TOO chocolatey! I really liked the vanilla ones, and the chocolate ones when you eat them slowly :P It was a little too loud for me the day I went (though it was a Bank Holiday so maybe it'd be a bit quieter during a weekday), but the staff were friendly enough. Keep in mind the macarons (and everything else in the shop) are quite expensive. Definitely just a one-off for a poor student like me :)
nicolearios I tried one of those since I'm in love with salted caramel :) Definitely liked it though it was possibly slightly too sweet for me lol, and I have a huge sweet tooth

The Macaroons at Laduree are to die for, although I do find them slightly too expensive here in London. But I guess you know what you're in for when you go to Harrods! Love the tearoom, a little oasis of Pris in the middle of London.
Having lived in Paris I was thrilled when Laduree arrived (incidentally they are owned by Pauls) This is a really good version of the many Ladurees I have been too. It is great for breakfast (although where is my favourite pain au chocolat with pistachio???). It is also very good for lunch (order a salad or their yummy club sandwiches) It is also very good with children as they do a wonderful chocolate drink with cream on top (apologies for lack of memory) and I also really like to buy their macaroons for presents. Even teachers presents (with a tin of their tea which is well priced for something so beautifully packaged). The French in London often buy their puddings/deserts here or cakes for Christenings.
The macaroons are TDF and what I really like is that they are seasonal so you can only buy their amazing raspberry for only a few weeks every year for example. Try the caramel, the lemon, the pistachio and most importantly the Rose. It is as if you are eating delicious rose petals.
Ladurée make the most amazing macarons. The shop is beautifully laid out, the rows of pretty coloured treats look amazing. As a present, they gift wrap your selection of macarons in gorgeous boxes, alternatively you ask for a soft box which keeps them safe just long enough to get them home.
Sea Salt Caramel are my all time favourite, but this season's Green Apple, Cherry, and Mimosa flavours are all fantastic. I also love Blackcurrant Violet. And a selection wouldn't be complete without Rose, Vanilla, and Pistachio...
The tea rooms are lovely too, although the queue in summer is quite unbearable- often 45 minutes to get a table.
My one complaint is that recently the London branch stopped stocking my favourite Pistachio Pain au Chocolat :(
So upset. Rue Royale is a little far to go for my morning pastry.
Ignoring the fact that I nearly barfed out of sheer gluttony Laduree is amazing.
A whole host of nibbles and savoury food is available but the main attraction is the amazing cakes and trademark macaroons (the pistachio almost made me cry with happiness). They are incredibly decadent and extremely rich so don't stuff your face too quickly unless you're happy not moving for several hours.
That said, unlike the rest of Harrods Laduree is so tucked away from the rest of the food hall that it's rarely overly busy and you can afford to sit back and waste away an afternoon there.
Aside from eating like a piggy the decor is beautiful. It's all very over-the-top, as if a unicorn possessed by Marie Antoinette gloriously threw up toile wallpaper and ostentatious mirrors everywhere.
Perfect for the sunshine and beautiful days….
the espresso is very good, like the real italian coffee…
An excellent place, more so that it is hidden right at the back of Harrods (past the Krispy Kreme shop), so even though its good and popular, you don’t get random tourists clogging up the place.
Surprisingly for Harrods, tea is quite affordable at about £3 a pot. However, their tea is not their strong point in my opinion, but the Macaroons are amazing. Combined with the fact that staff are curteous and well trained, and that you’re free to sit there for hours to relax and talk, its a perfect afternoon tea place.
I will also add that it seems to be open till quite late, about 7 or 8pm on weekends, which is a rarity among tea places in London.
This is the place to indulge yourself after a great day of shopping at Harrods… mind the long queue though. They offer great pastries, macaroons, chocolates and a variety of tea and coffee. They serve ice-cream… For me… shopping at Harrods always follow with Laduree as the finale! Nothing more perfect than this!
Check out the intricate design, it changes decor with each space… I think there are 3 main sections when 3 different themes… I love the seating up the stairs… cosy and segregated from the rest!
Think of macarons, think of Laduree. My nieces and nephews love Laduree macarons as they are simply delicious and resistable. They come in different flavors so beware to have one too many.
Hello,
I was so relieved when Laduree came to London.
Ok, might sound very snobbish but before that to find decent french patisserie it was hard.. apart From Maison du Chocolat…
Sorry back to the subject: of course the macarons are divine, but the cakes a out of this world try rose St Honore amongst others, they come as individual cakes or you can order larger sizes.
Also for la “Buche de Noel” (Xmas cake) they are very inventive.
Finally for a posh lunch try their salads, not ordinary ones with lobster.
Totally love the place…
My husband bought me macaroons from Laduree, Harrods and it’s as good as the ones we had in Paris. However, the service is very different. The shop assistant in Paris was very friendly to us and the shop assistant who helped my husband in Harrods was exceptionally friendly. What a difference. Highly recommended
The macaroons here are exquisite. But being french, and being the macaroon experts you would expect them to be!!
The little cafe area at Harrords is the perfect setting - you can be served lovely tea in delicate floral china, and enjoy and perfectly proportioned macaroon (or two!) on the side, for a welcome rest for the bustle of the main shop.
Even if you don’t like macaroons, just seeing them lined up in their mulitude of colours is a sight to behold and is definately worth checking out if you are in Harrords!
Great venue to sit down after a hard days shopping or great to meet friends for a hot drink and something sweet. The hot chocolate is literally melted chocolate. It can get sickly so I usually share with my friends, but it’s worth it. The cakes and macaroons are delicious. I like the pistachio 'green’ macaroon. You can also take away your cakes, which are packaged really nicely in a box.
I have sometimes taken tea here, but only with friends who can’t resist the macaroons. As they are one the few pleasures I can resist, I have declined to report on my visits, but now that they have built out a lovely sunny seating area beside the south door (see photos), serving more substantial meals, I will undoubtedly be coming again with fresh interest.
Loooooooove the macarons :)
Went there for lunch with friends, and the bill came up to nearly £35 for each of us. We each had a low priced main, cake, coffee and macaroons!
I’m already itching to go back, but I’d skip the food and stick to the desserts.
Service was absolutely flawless. Timely, and precise. The waiter didn’t even write things down and he took a massively complicated order and got things not only right, but to their rightful destination (person) in the end too!
I am duly impressed and can’t wait to go back and swoon over those delicious macaroons…
eurydice13 hey! Cheapest you could get away with is about £15, but for not much stuff. Plan for a good 25 to 30 if you want proper dessert or high tea with scones and sandwiches and things.
The £15 gets you a pot of tea, and a good selection of macaroons. About 6, if my math and memore are cooperating today.
