Compliment

A tiny place in Fulham where a door bell has to be rung to gain entry. This place is for true jazz connoisseurs, I’m talking real jazz, where there’s sometimes no melody or no words and at times you find it hard to follow but somehow it always manages to sound amazing, but you can’t quite understand how – unless you’re a musician – That kind of jazz! So, obviously the main feature of this bar stroke restaurant is the live music and the musicians and singers. The musician’s stage is placed in the centre of the restaurant section against the back wall, tables and chairs form a semi circle around the stage. This place is very cramped and tables are literally on top of one another, going to the toilet appears to be a huge struggle here as half the restaurant has to back out of the restaurant to let you get to the bathroom! On the other hand it has a very intimate feel and you almost feel as though you’re all here supporting the jazz cause in one big unity.
I was taken here for my second anniversary last year and really enjoyed myself, at first I was worried that this place may be slightly too poncy for me, but ultimately it really was people just going to enjoy some jazz. Me and my partner had a table reserved right next to the stage, it is imperative that you reserve a table for 606. We ate our meal alongside the jazz musicians, I think it’s always nice to eat in different settings, whether it’s music, theatre or dance, it’s nice to dine this way, so I particularly enjoyed the double whammy of food and music both at once! The food was good, not as good as the music, but did the job, the menu consisted of dishes like wild boar sausages with mashed potatoes, veal with new potatoes and salad. For starters I had Nachos and may I say these were the true nacho’s, baked in the oven and smothered in cheese, just as the Mexican’s do, so often I order nacho’s and literally end up with what would seem to be a bag of Doritos tipped onto a plate and shoved into a microwave with a dollop of Guacomole, Cream cheese, salsa and a helping of cheese that wouldn’t even be sufficient for a sandwich. So compliments to 606’s nachos! For desert I had a chocolate truffle cake, chocolate cake being the high light of any meal was mediocre, it was more of a chocolate truffle cake than it was a chocolate cake – I’m all for the chocolate cake, but it hit the spot as far as chocolate goes.
Jazz is definitely 606’s focal point and although the food is good, you wouldn’t be wrong to visit solely to enjoy the music, however the best seats are in the restaurant and unless you are eating you are not allowed to be seated in this area.
Be wary of the fifteen pound charge which is slapped onto your bill if you are not a member of 606!
