This iconic Southend pub stood for many years in a state of dereliction. The developer that took it over pumped life back into the building, but doing so cost the pub half the original size. So we now have a much smaller Blue Boar but probably as functional as a bar, as it should be. It sits on a major crossroads leading into the main central part of town and is close by to Southend United’s football ground. with no car park or beer garden the pub relies on footfall trade and smokers line the road outside. Inside the pub is smart but the lease is and has been for some time up for sale, owned by 'Pubs N Bars’. A local historical point is announced through a Blue Plaque on the building stating a small gathering of people in this very pub started what is now Southend United in 1906. Do understand on a level of historical value this is rated highly in Southend as this town is very young in anglo terms.
Let it be said the ghosts of 1906 would have difficulty in recognising their old haunt, now the pub has taken on a psuedo modern look.
