The Grande Dame of Edinburgh, this is how a theatre should be. The Playhouse is grand, elegant, sumptuous and classy- just the thing to inspire you to be a bit cultural. The line-ups tend to be the usual West End plays, but this is sometimes broken up by music gigs and a variety of dance performances during the festival. The acoustics are phenomenal considering the size and age of the venue, and most seats tend to have a decent view. Beware of the pillars and the slightly uncomfortable seats, together with the extortionate drinks prices, but despite these small flaws a night out at the Playhouse is an experience regardless of the quality of the show. An Edinburgh institution.
