Compliment Landstreichler (06-12-2007) 5

This November we stayed a week in a danish "Sommerhuset" just around 300 yards away from the lighthouse. I thought this could be a good reason to write a second review about the place in (sort of) English language. I added some photos too, because in my opinion this area is one of the best places around Blåvand to take pictures.

Some recommended scenes:
- Lighthouse in pink, when the sun is rising.
- Lighthouse in orange, when the sun sets.
- Vertigo inside the lighthouse.
- On the top: View on the landscape, or exhausted tourists coming up the stairs.
- And finally: No lighthouse, on foggy weather.

You are not forced to master the numerous stairs as beside the lighthouse there still remains plenty to see. You just can head for the beach, walk on the dunes or climb on some of the bunkers. Many people come also to this beach to search for amber.

Let's get back to the lighthouse: If you come here on daylight and it doesn't rain and finally the wind is not too strong then this is a good time to prove your physical fitness and climb these stairs. If you're honest, then pay the house of the lighthouse warden a visit and deposit the fee. A sign outside indicates that they might check your ticket in the tower. Honestly, i do not think they ever did that. But in the warden house you also find good material of many places to visit around Blåvand and a small exposition about the Wind-Energy Plant "Horns Rev" which you can see far out on the north sea from here. So pay them a visit and leave your 15 crowns.

Climbing the stairs is not as bad as you might expect. Just about 120 feet to go up. If you are not too "wide" and fit through the hatch on the top, then you get rewarded. Provided the weather is anywhere near fine you will have a great view on Blåvandshuk, the North Sea and Esbjerg. Maybe you also get a view on some tank shooting, because next to this place is a "playground" of the danish army.

This lighthouse is still in service. Today they use an electric motor to spin the light but inside you can also see the original mechanism which resembles a clockwork powered by a weight.

A delightful review. The lighthouse in my home town in Somerset, England, is also a holiday home for rent, now, but this looks to be more fun. And your English is better than most Brits!
