Shopping in Edinburgh can be stressful, what with most of the trade being done on Princes Street and the busier parts of the Old Town.
Enter Ocean Terminal. This retail centre tucks everything under one roof, is easy to reach and provides free parking. All the high street names are present & correct and there's the obligatory cinema too, courtesy of Vue.
This is a weakness as much as a strength though- complexes like this often feel like they are missing soul and character, and OT struggles to be any different.
There are occasional pieces of sanitised art scattered around to remind you of OT's role in regenerating Leith, and the roots of the area: a golden anchor under an escalator for example. However, there is still a shortage of personality here. Still, 'personality' probably doesn't mean much when you're being buffeted along by the militant shoppers on Princes Street, the land of heehaw space and parking.
OT is the smart alternative on a Saturday afternoon.
