Soho Theatre is one of the coolest off-west-end theatres. It's so in tune with what you can call if you like 'hip'. Soho Theatre prides itself on investing in new writers whose work discusses current, topical subject matters. The theatre also shows a number of plays by established writers, which are too very topical and contemporary. The theatre is a great place to watch the manifestation of the world in art form and this is what the plays selected at Soho Theatre does for its audience. Its target demographic is mid teens to possibly early forties.
In general it appeals to the younger generations and really pays homage to what it's like living in an Urban, contemporary, ‘average’ (if you like) world. Soho Theatre doesn't concern itself with the niceties of life but the truth, you don't have to be a theatre lover to enjoy the works that Soho Theatre invests in. You just have to appreciate the world you live in.
The theatre has a number of resources for writers, writers’ workshops and special readings. The theatre also welcomes writers to submit scripts. Once submitting your script the literary department speculatively read your work, provide you with feedback and possibly put your play into production.
Good luck to you if you happen to be one of those successful script submitters, I submitted my script last year September and am still awaiting feedback. Nevertheless, for writers and theatre heads the Soho Theatre is a great community to become a part of.
