Zafferano is a reliable high-class Italian which does its job well, but lacks a bit of pizazz, particularly at lunchtime. On a recent visit I had some competent squid and a rather heavy truffle risotto, but nothing to get excited about. We also had to ask the maitre ‘d to turn the loud and inappropriate jazz down (it was turned off completely when the place filled up). On the other hand we chose a superb wine - a Planeta Chardonnay from Sicily - which made the whole meal worthwhile.
