My friend and I almost skipped this museum. We thought the National Museum (which is in fact attached) would be the interesting one. We couldn’t have been more wrong. We decided to make a quick run through it just to say we’d been there and quickly realized how much more interesting it was. It has 3 levels. To go through every room quickly would take about 4 hours. Like most places in Edinburgh, it closes early (5 or 6pm) so we had to leave and come back another day to finish. Now, it may be due to a lack of seeing good museums in the world but I fell in love with this place. It’s my favorite museum to date. If you go through the room of birds, there is a particularly funny bird known for vomiting on its predators. The museum decided to have vomit coming out of the bird’s mouth and splattering on its encasement. That was the funniest item I’ve ever seen at a museum. The important thing is, it’s FREE and there’s plenty there so, even if you aren’t into museums, you’ll find something there to make it worth the visit.
