Best travel book shop ever! And for Stanfords, travel doesn’t only include the usual guide book and possibly travel writing sections, it means literally everything around getting around the world. The have the most impressive collection of maps I have ever come across, world maps, walking maps, hiking and biking maps, sailing charts (and all sorts of other gems in the water-based section), antique maps, children’s maps, star charts…you name it! They also sell travel gear for the independent traveller, plus map wrapping paper (rather pricey but oh so pretty!) and other accessoires with a map-ish design. I love spending a whole afternoon in that place, letting my thoughts wander to all those places gathered in this one spot… it’s a real gem. And they also have a cafe. What more could one want?
