If you want to get a good overview of traditional chinese culture, a trip to Nanjing Museum is worth the effort. It has a big collection of chinaware, jade, brocade, lacquer etc. The exposition is not a collection of everything but a careful selection of very beautiful examples of art and handicraft from three thousand years. You will leave this museum with a deep respect of chinese artists and culture.
