I imbibe so much coffee that I think myself something of a connoisseur - I doubt this is quite true, but I have perfected the art of stove top Italian coffee at home and have stopped pretending Starbucks serves anything remotely resembling the drink. All that aside, I drink lots of it - so when I taste a good cup it comes as such a delightful surprise and Monmouth Coffee is one such beautiful shock.
Fittingly situated in London’s Food World Extravaganza region aka Borough Market, I defy Monmouth virgins and veterans alike to walk past without sampling a cup. The hot dark stuff is aromatic and strong without bitterness - I opted for my favourite, a flat white and promptly was transported to caffeine heaven.
The setting is divine, also. A world away from Starbucks (as so many qypers before me have acknowledged) you can almost taste the history of this place and perched up on a stool surveying the bread and jam station you feel you never wish to order a paper-tasting Grande extra hot shot anything, from anyone in a uniform, ever again.
