Madame Zingara’s is the best place for a night of decadent indulgence. She lives in a circus tent with stained glass sides.
She has been mostly based in Cape Town for some years although Monte Casino in the northern suburbs of Johannesburg was her home for the winter of 2007. On the 3rd of May 2008 she will close her doors on the mother city and pack up her tent poles and stained glass and head for Durban in KwaZulu Natal. I believe that after Natal she will be heading for London in the UK.

The food is divine, with a set four course meal, you have the selection of one of four dishes for the main course. Between
courses your senses will be tantilized by some of the most incredibly talented performers doing things most people would
believe imposible. Jugglers, acrobats, singers and contorsionists and a whole host of other freaky antics.

The waitrons each have to choose a costume for the night from a vaste wardrobe of interesting and bizzare outfits. Her home
in Cape Town at the moment is a car park behind Century City. Everything from the fencing to the gravel stones outside are
packed up when she moves, taking around four days to break down when she leaves and ten days to errect (or so I was told by one of the fulltime staff who is a rigger). On any given night they have a staff compliment of around sixty plus people to
delight your senses for the evening. They are not by any means cheap but it’s worth every penny. A fair portion of their
profits go to worthy charities, having raised R2 million for charities in Cape Town.

If you find her in your neighbourhood or even a few hours away, it would be well worth your while to pay her a visit.

Please not that the restaurant doesn’t have a fixed address as it does move around so check the website for details.
