This is quite simply the best hotel I’ve ever stayed at. Generally, on arrival you are presented with a hot towel and a glass of champagne. They were having a few computer issues when I was there - so they upgraded my room to a suite for no charge.

The style is earthy - with browns and terracottas, and stone flooring in the foyer. The hotel does feel grand - and opens up to an impressive atrium 6 or 7 stories high. The room we stayed in was clean, beautifully designed and wonderfully comfortable.

The amenities are incredible - if you like, you can request a pet goldfish in your room for companionship (no, not that kind of companionship). All of the rooms are on the outside of the building, leaving a huge atrium in the centre surrounding a large, modern bar.

To cut out noise from the bar, white noise is piped through speakers on every floor. I was sceptical at first, but this worked a treat and was remarkably calming. Each room has wireless internet, iPods on request, a CD library, and you can also upgrade to stay in what they call an iStudio - a room bedecked with a fully loaded Apple Mac G5 with sound, picture and video editing software.

The staff are courteous and polite, and really seem to care about making your stay memorable - and in a good way. The location puts it a couple of minutes walk from Canal St and Broadway, and about 3 miles from Times Square.

If you’re only in New York for a couple of days, it’s worth shelling out a bit more for accommodation, and the Tribeca Grand Hotel is an awesome place to stay - it will make your trip that much more memorable.

I mean, a complimentary pet goldfish? How cool is that?
