Margaret Island is in the centre of Budapest and has not been built over, but has been kept as one large park.
It is connected to the mainland with Margaret Bridge In the south and Arpad Bridge in the north. There are some ruins of Cloisters from the Middle Ages, an old health resort, 2 spas and a church on the 200 plus acres, but all the rest has been left as landscaped parks with huge lawns, fountains and beautiful trees.
It is the ideal place to go cycling, jogging or for a relaxing picnic and due to its central position is a popular meeting place. In summer huge outdoor music festivals are held here.
