I really like this one, painted on the side of a working man’s club, showing someone who should be painting yellow lines, but who’s gone off the rails a little and ended them with a big yellow flower. Words like ‘whimsical’ and ‘playful’ come to mind. Or you could make an argument for it being a statement for liberation from petty rules and regulations.

Apparently this appeared only 2 weeks after Tower Hamlets council had declared they would erase any work by Banksy. Unfortunately Banksy got permission to paint on this privately owned building… To rub it in the piece includes an official looking stamp (now partially obscured) saying ‘Commissioned by Tower Hamlets’. They have however erased the extension from the street’s yellow lines to the lines of the flower. The pavement is now clean!

Again this one has a none-Banksy addition. I get the impression Banksy takes other people’s additions as pretty much part of the game, and, though they are often just loutish, in this case I rather like it. It might not be artistically skilful, but the speech bubble is delightfully bizarre. Is the speaker really asking Ross Kemp for a walking race? LOL

I’ve been unable to find a definite story, but, thanks to Blondiee on Runner’s World forum, I did find someone on a Ross Kemp appreciation site who last year tried to set up a speed walking event with everyone dressed as Ross Kemp! Maybe that’s the source… Or maybe there’s a few people out there who want to see Ross wiggle.
