Viper and Vine - Prestwich
404-406 BURY NEW ROAD
Manchester, Greater Manchester M25 1BD
Never again... a must read !We bought a pair of lovebirds at 50.00 pounds a few weeks back...had them less than 2 days and had to take them back to the shop as one of them we thought was breathing raspy or was just acting nervous due to new enviroment. Was told by rod the ausie that may be due to ...yes lets hear it...due to aerosols....asked if he would like to keep the birds for a few days to see how they got on...but he declined.Took them back home....noticed the automatic aerosol was empty in the living room...had been for a couple of weeks or so as told by other family members...never the less moved them to our conservatory...after two weeks the bird in question died.Went onto the web to see if any more about viper and vine and noticed similar complaints....called the shop and was told by rob this time..yes i sympathise with you as you have not had the birds long...3 weeks or so...he spoke to rod and the shop owner matt and he called me back saying best they could do was to replace the bird and i will have to pay only the cost price !Told him not acceptable as we are within our rights to ask for 25.00 back for the one bird...a replacement bird may not be a good idea as they may fight. He said he would relay this on to the owner but never came back to me.Spoke to trading standards in bury opened a file and they advised me to send a recorded letter....did so viper and vine refused to sign for it....sent again the same letter by normal post with proof of sending...ensuring it will land at the shop...still no response...Trading Standards advise...1. Animals should be treated as goods for the purpose of the law.2.Sales of goods act states should be of satisfactory quality or offer replacement or refund.3.Regardless of any stated guarantee the purchase is under the contracyt of goods sales act.4.We have the statutory right to pursue this matter.Have spoken to trading standards today and as advised writing for the final time to viper and vine to see if we can come to a mutual agreement to settle this matter within 7 days or we will be taking them to a smalls claims court...that by the way is inexspensive to do.            Will post in due course any further developments....     Point of this post is to point out to viper and vine that not everyone will let them walk over them and accept their pathetic excuses for the sale of some sick animals that are not of a satisfactory quality.                      1st and last purchase at viper and vine. very relaxed attmosphere, great food, attentive staff, and if you go wed or sun you get a great offer. The only thing I would say negative is the booths are quite tight on space if your not skinny or just like it roomy. There is plenty of other seating available, and its just my opinion anyway.Def.worth a visit very friendly place and everyone is offered/given a free drink unless your under 18yrs. enjoy. My partner and I went here for lunch, and left still feeling hungry, the main course could do with more potato (we had a whole 5 chips each), and more vegetables. not sure if we will be back (19phil50, 02-03-2013)

We have used this local DIY store on several occasions now & each time they have had the products we wanted ,as well as a large selection of doors & glass they stock paint, wood,DIY materials, all manor of fixing & gate furniture . You are looked after by the competent staff ,nothing is to much trouble ,it is well worth a visit with prices that are cheaper in many caes than the big stores. cannot recomend this shop highly enough. A small, but very pleasant cafe, which serves a variety of teas and coffees, and a range of meals/sandwiches/breakfasts. Really nice friendly staff. Four 4-seater Ikea tables & chairs inside, with a similar amount of seating space at the bottom of the steps outside. I would recommend this as an alternative to the nearby Costa (which is good, but doesn't exactly offer value for money when compared to this cafe). If you are looking for somewhere which is a little different to the coffee chains, then this is definitely the place to go in Prestwich Village. (Rob-M7, 11-08-2010)

Heaton Park - Prestwich
Heaton Park

For all its space, beauty, and serenity Heaton Park can be an unsettling place. The relief of the land has to do with that: you never quite know if it is a hill or merely a patch of land you are seeing in a distance. It matters because the hills are steep, so you are stepping down without actually knowing it, and the question is, how you'd get back :-) Apart from that this is an absolutely wonderful place to go for a walk. Fair enough, kids and dogs may unsettle your romantic walk. Local history fans will delight themselves in visiting Heaton Hall, an 18th c. mansion with splendid interiors where once again you may notice that creepy feeling. Perhaps, this is how all historic buildings feel, especially in England known for its haunted houses. There are tea rooms on Park's territory. Not far from the pond is the old Town Hall colonnade - a great example of architectural "recycling". (juliedelvaux, 08-06-2012)
