Oh no, another review about a stately home. This one is a little different, although the history and the display of wealth and grandeur, at a time when most of the surrounding society had very little and lived simple and hard existences is very evident.
This place is grand scale and deserves a fuller review. Magnificent grounds with all different influences from around the world. A distinct Italian influence throughout with magnificent water features that make a sheer pleasure for the eye.
The house is absolutely wonderful and although packed with great treasures, it is presented in a way that allows you to experience it. You can sit in most rooms and take photographs for your memories.
Summary. A wonderful day out.
Key points. Excellent parking, lovely views, wonderful stately house, catering and eating facilities to a very high standard throughout the estate. Admission charges were very relevant to the quality of Chatsworth.
I have uploaded a couple of photo's to give a sense of the splender of Chatsworth.

The Wheatsheaf is a large hotel, bar and restaurant in the Derbyshire village of Baslow. Set adjacent to a relentlessly busy main road, it picks up lots of passing trade. The car park is a vast multi-levelled affair, with seasonal landscaping. The inside of the Wheatsheaf is expansive and separated into the main bar, a multitude of alcoves, a conservatory and a large partially covered garden area of seating. All of which are targeted towards dining at a reasonable price. Opting for a centrally situated table, we studied the copious menu and the daily specials, almost too much choice; you have your classic dishes like steaks, fish pies etc, as well as specials like whole sea bass and lemon sole. I went for their Kickin' Chilli Chicken, appropriately spicy, just enough spice, not insipid, not uneatable, a good choice. My wife's salmon was equally good, enhanced by the subtle lemon sauce, fresh vegetables and new potatoes.
Spurred on by the impressive mains, you've got to go for a dessert, my wife's lemon and lime tart was a little synthetic though, and my cheesecake was pretty standard, so in the future we may opt for starters not desserts. I'm not a big fan of chain pub restaurants, but this was on the whole a good one. The staff were friendly too and genuinely helpful

Set adjacent to the green in the picturesque village of Baslow is the Café on the Green. Having walked passed it on our stroll to Chatsworth House, we were impressed by its menu and sunny outlook, so we called in for breakfast one morning. The cakes on display looked so inviting and its the first time I've seen cornflake cake since I was at school! As it was breakfast time though, we confined our menu choices the wide variety of breakfasts on offer, from toast to the requisite Full English. We plumped for scrambled eggs and poached eggs on toast, well presented and freshly cooked, but just a little under-seasoned. It didn't really matter overly though, listening to the radio, in comfortable surroundings, revelling in the fact that we were on holiday, more than made up for it. The menu for the rest of the day was equally tempting with fresh sandwiches, hot meals etc. Pity we never got the chance to return, I'm sure we will in the future.

Beautiful (expensive) olives! My tastebuds have never experienced anything like them before! I wish we'd had more time and weren't as tired as we were otherwise I could happily have spent another half hour drooling (not literally) over all the delicious preserves and cheeses and meats and pickles and speciality bread and bakewell tarts and pies that adorned Thyme to Taste's shelves!

We bought some proper tasty sausages and burgers from here for our barbecue when we went podding a couple of weeks ago - am-az-ing. There were pork and leek burgers, some other fancy ones, and plain old delicious no-frills-just-good-quality-beef burgers.
The boys who were working were very chipper and friendly even though it was officially past closing time when we tipped up. If we were local we'd definitely be back!

I came in here to pick up a couple of disposable BBQs as we were camping nearby and was really chuffed with just how much stuff there was! Almost loaded up with more camping gear but refrained as there was a camping shop with a sale on down the road.
Anyway, saw the 'Multibuy - 2 for £5' offer on the BBQs and thought 'get in', until I got to the till with my fiver and was charged £5.50. I said I was sure the offer was 2 for £5 but the till lady said 'no, it's 2 for £5.50' and as I didn't have any extra cash I had to pay by card, and then after I'd walked out I got really peeved about that extra 50p and way I'd been dismissed so I went back in and after I'd showed the lady the sign I got my 50p back, hooray!
Yes, I am that pedantic and scroogey.

I'd say that I agree with all of the above by bobbylad98. I usually meet clients here if they come to Bakewell as the setting is beautiful (with parking right next to it - important in Bakewell if travelling in from a distance) and the environment - though noisy at times - is conducive to having an informal meeting with established clients.
The food has always been great. It's on the pricey side, but worth it for the general experience you get. If you want cafe prices, go to a cafe!
The service has always been reasonable when I've been there, though I think any problems in this regard is down to the fact that the staff for most food outlets in the area are the sixth formers at the local School! They look the part, but don't have the experience since these are stop gap jobs on their way to Uni.

Properly good pork pies from here. Their boiled ham is excellent too. It makes even the delicatessen stuff in supermarkets look quite poor.

Visited last year. Great service and managed to supply an A4 frame for my graduation certificate for £6. On graduation day, the photographers were asking £40 for something which looked inferior!
